Anybody checked out Bodies The Exhibition

I went to see the Bodies Exhibition tonight. A very informative display and worth checking out. When you've seen the effects of smoking and drinking on the body parts, you come away with a real reason to stop doing that to your body.

For medical staff, I tip my hat to your expertise. The body is quite a complex machine.

BODIES...The Exhibition

I think this was the display where one of them started leaking!

This is different than the Gunther Van Hagens one correct?

Plasticised cadaver expos look like the new fad. From their FAQ:

Quote:
"Bodies... The Exhibition"... is not affilated with any other organizer of human anatomy exhibitions, including Gunther von Hagens, Gerhard Perner, or Genlife Biomedical. "Bodies... The Exhibition" should not be confused with "Body Worlds", "Body Exploration", "The Universe Within", "Bodies Revealed" or any other human anatomy exhibition.
A few years back two Japanese troupes (yes, two) toured Hong Kong within a span of a few months. I did not go even though I had free tickets: I'm afraid of the crowds, the living.

I do believe this one is different than Gunther Von Hagens' display. I missed that when it came to the ROM, which is a bit of a shame since it seemed a little more focused on the marvels of human anatomy in general, where this one seems more strictly dedicated to movement.

Just the same, I'm not sure I could go through one of these exhibits without some degree of nausea-inducing overstimulation.

There was an incredible "art coffee-table" book I came across in University which I've been trying to hunt down ever since (no idea what the name was). Basically, a death-row inmate donated his body to science, and he was dissected by laser, creating hundreds of cross-section photographs of perfectly preserved "slices" of the body. What made it particularly fascinating is that, beyond muscle tissue and organs, it displayed vividly the inner workings of our nervous, cardiovascular and pulmonary networks. I really do wish I could find this. Simply incredible stuff.

I believe that this was at the Detroit Science Center for quite some time.

My wife begged me to go but I refused. There is a bit of controversy about this exhibit. My understanding is that they used the bodies without permission. Here's a link (yeah, it's wiki, but easy):

BODIES... The Exhibition

I'm no bleeding-heart, but if true, I have a problem with the exploitation of these people.

I went to see this exhibition last summer in NYC and thought it was fantastic.

The two best parts of it, I thought, were that they separated each system of of the body into their own sections of the exhibition and that at the end you could hold a brain, a femur bone, and a few other body parts.

I have never seen the one you saw but I have seen BodyWorlds twice and I thought that it was amazing. If you are at all interested in the body I would recommend seeing either one.

I'm very sad to say I missed it. I'm kicking myself; it really looked like an amazing opportunity.

Wait, Body Worlds came to the ROM? I saw Body Worlds 2 when it came to the Ontario Science Centre, but I didn't hear about it or the original exhibition being at the ROM.

No, this was a very comprehensive exhibit showing all systems (circulatory, nerve, hearing, digestive, reproductive, etc.) individually as well as complete cavity cutaways, sectional slices, organ cutaways, etc. It took about two hours to go through it all.

I asked how the bodies were collected and was told that all bodies were unclaimed by family. I wondered about the embryos though. All displays were Chinese.

Whenever I listen to my car radio, they would always talk about some exhibition at the museum in the city, don't know if it called Bodies the Exhibition but from the description it sure does sound like it. Their website doesn't show my city though so /shrug, might go and check it out when I have free time though.

One of these exhibitions, Bodies I think, was held in Melbourne last year. If I remember correctly a foot was stolen from the exhibition and was never recovered.

cheers
