Post The Gear You're Bringing to CanJam - Page 14

The massive menacing amps at this meet are going to be killer:

1. The Massive Attack! Didn't know you were bringing the beast, but I am very pleased to be able to hear it.

2. The Menace! Many lines have been written on its birth and journey to the Jam.

3. The new TTVJ Millett 307A that looks FIERCE!

4. The HeadAmp KGBH SE! That silver surfer looks sweet!

5. SinglePower's ES-2 with mercury vapor rectified 24 tube power supply! Glowy.

6. My own Rockhopper 6-channel Balanced Beta22 amplifier with 2 x sigma 22 PSU in separate case. It was built by the chief penguin for his personal use until I stole it away from him.

What am I forgetting, and what am I not yet aware of? This meet will be killer from a gear perspective, and we know that it will have no equal from the party perspective!

Sounds like some great amps to be sure... I hope mine manages to keep up.

Any info/threads about the TTVJ amp and/or the Menace? I've been out of the loop for a while, but they certainly sound interesting.

Maher's Menace and TTVJ Millett 307A should get you started.

So, you have RS-1s with an APS re-cable? I have brown leather RS-1s with the stock cable but a 4-pin XLR connector. I have been thinking about having Alex put on an APS cable or maybe an Equinox cable, so maybe I should bring my pair for comparisons...

Sweet, thanks for the links.

Definately bring them for comparison. I didn't hear my pair before the recable unfortunately, though I am very happy with the sound. I really like the recable from a usability standpoint and for the look of it... been considering having my K340's done at some point.

Sweet. Yours looks cool. Here are some pics of mine, which has the signature 4-pin XLR headphone jack and orange LEDs, but thrice added a switch on the back for XLR or RCA input:

cheapest mac mini i could find was for 500 bucks. is there a reason why you suggested it? ive seen quite a few other people do the same. for 300 bucks you could just as well build a computer 60 times better than a mac that would do the same job and a few other things as well. i had a "research" rig at college that i only used for games but at home i have a bare minimum rig that i can surf the web on/listen to music/watch movies (it does 720p/1080p as well) and it cost me $247 and even this machine is not a bare minimum rig (bare rig would cost around 180-200). for a few bucks more a keyboard and mouse could be had from best buy and then theres plenty of people throwing out perfectly good monitors on craigslist everywhere. i just used my sisters old monitor. no need for a video card (onboard is sufficient). no need for audio card (dac being used).

this is assuming that the primary function of the computer is to use it to play music.

just curious so i asked.

Hopefully the Vampire plugs don't scare cj.

Also, I shipped this little bundle of joy to CanJam today, may the USPS be kind to my lovelies...
is it just me or does the right plug look like d-cee's avatar?

See bolded above ... yes, the Apogee Duet was designed to operate over a firewire interface specifically with the OS X core sound subsystem. Good luck getting it to work on other setups.

I picked up a Mac Mini for $479, and consider it money well spent, even though not using the Apogee Duet. I roll with the Logitech/Slim Devices Duet (confusing, ain't it?), because I love having everything in the remote. That's just me - no better nor worse, but a case of each to his/her own.

i understand where you are coming from. my dad would rather buy a computer for 900 dollars when i could build the same for him for much less just because...well im not really sure. i think he just doesnt like troubleshooting on his own where as i just wait around for something to go wrong so i have an excuse to get inside his case. having help a phone call away is a very big plus in favor of prebuilt computers but i think just like good audio, people arent properly introduced to self built computers and neither do most people have the time to fix them when something goes wrong. which is why an equally small percentage of people know about good audio as people who build their own computers.

story for another day and perhaps a different forum i didnt mean to attack any mac owners in particular, i guess i just feel the same about overpriced computers as everyone around here feels about overpriced bose headphones.

i just read a little about the apogee duet and im not entirely sure as to why they limited themselves to mac only...if it is that good of a dac why not make support for it universal? wouldnt that benefit them more? the number of mac users is increasing but they are still heavily outnumbered by pc users.

ignore my questions if they are juvenile but things like these just dont make sense to me.

How did I miss this post. Thanks Nate, it looks great!

I built my own computers when I was in college, too. Now that other people pay me to work on computers, I'd rather spend my free time just doing stuff, so I buy macs at home. That apogee went and gave us a $2000 dac for $500 to work with the mini is just icing.
