Sennheisers don't bend: Or how to destroy a $150 headphone in 5 minutes

I just bought a pair of Senn HD580 from TJthumper in immaculate condition. 5 hours of use -- brand new. Just got them in the mail today. I put them on an though, 'Hm, a tad snug." I thought maybe some slight pressure might loosen them up on the head a bit.

I held the drivers and applied a light to moderate amount of force: SNAP!!!!!!

Broken in two! Jesus H. Christ, I had no idea they would just give like that. I know I did that a few times with my HD600s, but these things just gave like a wishbone!

GRRRRRRRRRR. $150 down the drain!!!!! In the first five minutes. Thanks, Sennheiser. No wonder you went to carbon fiber!

I see duct tape in your future

I did a pair of 650's, smack dab down the middle! I mean exact center, looked like I took them to a band saw. HEY WARRANTY!?!!

Ouch! Sorry about your phones!

I have tried to loosen my HD650's clamp once too. Didn't help, and I am clearly not going to try any more times after reading this.

Watch the for sale forum for someone selling a burned out driver pair. Save your drivers!

Or put a ad maybe someone has a broken pair you can use to make a new set.

HD650s? Double ouch. Did you get Sennheiser to repair them under warranty?

Using books or vhs tapes work well for gently stretching them

Sorry but...

What the hell were you thinking? A gentle bend of the headband will tell you that these don't flex very much.

Oh well, your money.

So with enough threads on Sennheiser stretching to last four-score days and nights of continuous reading, you still broke them...

Carbon fibre is a myth on Senns.

Ouch -- this is why I don't bend any of my cans too much -- just a little, sometimes.
If mine sudeenly snapped, I'd probably have a coronary! LOL
Maybe, as some have posted, you can mate your cans with another pair, and have one good one again?
Good luck!
EDIT: For now, the "duct tape in your future" idea posted, might work.

Time to hunt down a replacement headband. And remember not to bend over zealously next time.

If you want to adjust them, you bend the metal part of the headband that slides into the composite/plastic part of the headband.

Anyway, all is not lost.
You can call them and should be able to order the part.
