Woohoo! After only one month of waiting, my amp has arrived. Major kudos to Rudi for his quick turnaround; he and Ray Samuels set the standard for fast service on boutique amps.
It looks awesome, with some big honkin' tubes. Very retro looking... a non-audiophile would never guess it was made in the last forty years. That's a compliment, as I can't stand the typical modern stuff you see in the local Circuit City/Best Buy stores. Plus, it can double as a room heater! There's a lot of warmth coming off those babies.
I have to admit that I was a bit skeptical about the difference an aftermarket amp was going to make on my Stax Omega 2; I knew it would make some positive difference, but I always wondered about the line of thought that the Omegas can't work with the stock (in my case, SRM-007t2) amp. Consider me humbled, as those people were spot on! I can't believe that Stax packages the two together; perhaps it is a good amp for the other Stax headphones (I wouldn't know, I only own the Omega 2) but after hearing the Rudistor, I completely agree that the Omega 2 is not capable of being driven by the stock amp.
With a proper amp, the Omega 2 sounds like nothing I've ever heard. If it weren't for their slightly uncomfortable aspect (they're a bit "wobbly" and require me to reposition them every few minutes) I could see myself never listening to another headphone! They sound that good. No longer do I think that there is "no bass" with electrostatics; the bass is phenomenal, loud as it needs to be and very, very tight. These can easily be rock cans. Instrument separation is unparalleled; there is no problem picking out individual lines in a full orchestra. The tone is spot on, they are unbelievably quick, they don't distort, etc.
To sum things up, this is one of the best audio purchases I have made. If you own the Omegas and the stock Stax amp, you are not hearing what the cans are capable of.

. I won't do it for her like my mom did for me... I can't believe some of my essays didn't tip off the teachers, they were way too mature for me.

And I was soooo happy with it.
