I understand that the max modules are not a possibility in the Desktop Balanced due to heat. However, is it now possible to jam in a balanced Ultra Module into the Desktop Balanced? If possible, would this be an upgrade from the Home module?

Not at the present time regrettably... The HR Balanced Desktop Amp can only be loaded with the 'home'-level componentry. Keep in mind the Ultra Micros are discrete little amp/dac separates so heat build-up does not present nearly as much of an issue there as in the 'combined' topology of the Desktop units...
