Thanks man. Hey .... I worked pretty hard to get this lucky. In fact I nearly exhausted myself. Some days I am barely aware that the Zana is even here. That was my reaction to the Philips tubes ..... "where did the components go ?!".

I ran into a guy I know from this old diner, haven't seen him in awhile. He's a union guy, apparently ran sound for years at the Majestic downtown.

It was a real coincidence, especially now that the new components are opening up. So I'm hoping to get my first set of critical ears over here sometime soon. He had also just gotten some Altec drivers off eBay, and he knows nothing about the Zana. It should be very cool. And Sky if you're ever in town , just bring the 'phones.

I need to do an update on the RCA.

Heard from David the other day, all is good. He's been tied up with work lately.

Hi Karo - I don't have my Zana yet (on the current run, so anticipation is building), but have been putting a few tubes aside in advance. Am I right that this pic shows anode caps, with a longer lead because the Ultrons are taller than the Svetlanas? Apologies if I have the precise terminology wrong there, but could you tell me whether you made these yourself, or sourced them elsewhere - I foresee myself needing to obtain some, and will have to do yet more 'shopping on the web'...

TIA

Hello 40 !

The Majestic looks a little different these days ...

Thanks for the intel Karo - the delay in responding is no problem, as my Zana SE arrived on (would you believe it) Christmas Eve, so I have been getting to know it before starting the tube rolling. (Plenty of 6SL7 variants ready to go, along with a couple of 6C18Cs, some earlier Sylvania EY500As, and Siemans EY500As - should be fun). Pics to follow in due course...

At any rate, I am probably a bit far distant (!) to obtain something like this by anything but post etc, so I guess I may have to plead with Craig unless I can figure something else out. Thanks

Yeah load up those pics. I thought you were in the Solomon Islands ?

My original plan was to send out 4 pairs of the rectifers w/ the extended capwires. That way it wouldn't have mattered if one didn't believe in cables, or professionally-handled solder connections. It would have been the control aspect of the experiment. Different time zones, electrical grids, musical tastes, systems, personalities. It wouldn't have mattered beyond the variance in the tubes.

I'm not here for a business transaction. I just wanted to share w/ the community what I have found. I also know they needed to hear it from someone else. If I could sit on my patio and solder them myself I would do it, I might just do that. (btw Ryan ... looks like I'll have to get my speaker cables before I get a recable. Poor, poor me ).

Things have really settled in, and I am about to start rolling the dirty dozen. Let's see that collection 40Hz !

All of my tubes in operation are from him now. Are they matched ? Don't know.  But they are kicking the krap out of the matched-pair I got from partsconnexion.

Cheers.

Verry funny.      But that's not Karo,  I believe that would be Henk.

Am I sensing a little avatar-envy ??!     It's a shot I took at Sabor Lounge, a lat8in hard-rock klub, outside downtown LA.

Dankjewel, Karo,

Ik spreek neit zo goed Nederlands. So English it is. Thanks for the link. I'm on the May run for a Zana Deux SE. I can't hardly wait.

Maybe tube envy. I'm a discrete solid state guy.
