I'm looking for headphones to use in bed (no in-ear). A pair of good , closed headphones (~$200) that's comfortable and can be used lying down. Any recommendations?

The source will probably be a Squeezebox and I'm thinking of buying a HeadRoom Micro Amp.

the yuin pk1's are very comfortable for the bed... though they are ear buds they do in some aspects sound similar to a closed can. I love them for in bed because they just disappear and I can also lie down without them falling out. These would probably come to over $200 if you are adding an amp as well which is pretty much required for them. The pk2's don't require an amp though and are similar less expensive.

If you still want to stick with full cans, from what I've read I would recommend the ath-a900's or ath-ad900's or one of the dt-880, dt-770, dt-990 headphones. You can search those on the forums and I'm sure you'll find quite a bit of info. They are all supposed to be pretty comfy so I would think they would be good for use in bed.

IMHO supra-aural (resting on the ear) 'phones are best for use in bed if you're not looking for IEM's/earbuds. I have HD280's, HD-595's, ER6-i's, PortaPro's and a few other phones. For me, my circumaural (over the ear) cans all get pushed around by pillows...

My experience is from watching movies on my laptop before going to sleep. Of all my headphones I've been using my PortaPro's unamped - the detail is fine for movies and the bass kick is perfect.

This may be the first post in the history of head-fi where someone mentioned a 'phone that costs less than the stated price range!

I'd take a closer look on the AKG K271 - much better than the midfi-ish DT770, A900 and similar folks. The closed fon under 200$ IMO.

It really depends on your pillow. I have really really soft pillows and my head kind of sinks right in. I still use my DT770s in bed from time to time. They are very comfy.

Stay away from any open cans because if you cover the vent it will sound really strange.

i have used denon d2000's and hd-25's in bed. I had no problem with my hd-25's, in the sense that I never worried about them breaking in any way when my head was on them (when lying down on my side), my d2000's sound better but I really cant turn my head and lie down on them much at all because I'm worried that they could break.

i've always wondered about this, so IEM's are ok to just sleep on? its not uncomfortable either? i mean regardless of brand, wouldnt you feel it pressing, while laying on your side?

I used to own the Westone UM1 and that was comfortable enough to use in bed.
