Xbox 360 headphones

Ok I have ABSOLUTLY NO IDEA of what most people are talking about at this site :im no audiophile . Im just looking for good advice on what headphones to buy to play on my new shinny xbox 360 .

Now i want them to sound good and be:

surround

sound good

xbox live compatible (mic and able to hear people talking well )

The people here say that 5.1 headphones suck with their 8 speakers , saying its best to play with "dolby headphone " technology .

Now I have no idea how two speakers can give you the same directional capabilities than 8 speakers and would highly appreciate if someone would take their time and explain it to me simply .

budget : around 100 $

my expectation in sound quality ain't that high being very very impressed with a panasonic 50 bucks pair .

Thanks ALOT and i mean ALOT .

if you dont care about other people (you have no one else around to bother)... speakers are the best

i could care less what people say about dolby digital headphones for gaming. if u want actual experience, its better with speakers.

the reason why people / pro gamers use headphones:
1. competition is with many people, so without headphones, u cant hear sounds without hearing other peoples sound
2. usually they are in a small room, or their room doesnt have good insulation, so noise bother people

its usually really hard to find a decent headphone with a mic attachment, esp when u want it to be xbox live compatible.

Regarding Dolby Headphone I think you need a receiver with Dolby Headphone or that little Dolby Headphone adapter that accepts the optical out on the XBox 360's AV cable.

I believe the best Dolby Headphone adapter is the one you can import from audiocubes because it allows you to plug in an AC adapter while the version marketed elsewhere is lacking that which is unfortunate.

I've never used it but I've heard good things about it. I want to try it out because I share a room with my girlfriend and have to listen to headphones when I play games.

They can do a much better job.. Download some well recorded binaural recording..Jurassic park T Rex sample is crazy. You'll see how great 2 channel headphones are at directional capabilities. I'd call it more like Audio 3D..

you can't get a Dolby's 5.1 adapter for under 80.00. The JVC sells betwen 80-120.00, & the mixamp retails for 130.00. The 50.00 panasonics will probably sound better then any 5.1 headphone on the market, but only your ears can decide that. You seem to want 5.1 more then great SQ.. If so, I'd get the Trittons 5.1 headset. You will probably like them..

I recommended the JVC 5.1 adapter at the AVSforum.com. About 8 people bought them due to my advice. All liked it.. All thought they were amazing for movies.. For gaming the opinions were mixed from awesome to just 'ok'.

Well yah 5.1 would give me an edge in shooters but if the sound sucks.......and i was "this" close to buying the trittons but other people on this site says the sq sucks compared to stereo . Hmmmm just a thought there .....may be 100 $ aint enough for sound quality and 5.1 but i cannot afford anything higher than lets say 135 $.

Some people talked about a certain 5.1 decoder or something that made it possible for 5.1 on stereo.

JVC looks like the best option. I'm surprised there aren't more (and cheaper) alternatives on the market.

Then again, most gamers probably just use the built-in speakers on their TV, don't even have external surround or stereo satellites, so having 'good' sound might just be niche for (*console*) gamers.

I know my friend has a huge, nice television/Halo 3 setup, all audio coming out of the built-in stock speakers on his LCD. So thinking of someone like him wanting a nice headphone setup seems absurd.

Yes but will it give me better sound , say, from an Ipod??? Like does it work as an Amp ?? and if yes is it any good? Is it portable??
Thanks

Yes. Buy.com had them for 80.00.. Yes you'd get surround sound through your 15.00 Koss.. But I'd get the Koss 75 for 20.00.. They sound like headphones costing 2-3 times as much.. So thats about 90.00..
