FLAC Player

Hello, I do not have much knowledge about DAPs.

I want a player with 8GB or more(flash pref) that can play loseless FLAC and WAV. Video playback is not required, but I don't see why not. Sound quality, durability, battery life and usability are required to be decent! I do not how much money, <$250~AUD.

Plug n Play also very helpful...

Cheers.

Most Cowon models (iAudio 7, D2 etc), Meizu (M6SL), TrekStor Vibez.

Isn't the Flash variation of the Vibes not released yet?

That said, a 32GB modded 2G iPod Mini with Rockbox installed sounds like a good idea to me.

I am looking the looks of the M6SL, can you add storage like other players?

Any negatives?

No, it does not have a expansion card slot.

The player is a nice piece of hardware and has nice sound, but the firmware has issues. Check out the forums at MeizuMe

Also, the touchpad is very sensitive; not very easy to use.

Thanks for the post Pony, kind of put me off, I don't really have the patient to fix issues that pop up, and i had a zen:micro photo and hated the touch pad.. i acn only imagine the meizu is worse.

I am looking at a 5.5G Ipod 80GB, from Apple store, what is the SQ like? I will prob put Rockbox on it so i can play FLAC

sound like a good idea? I don't like the look of the Cowons =[ don't look nice to use either.

Nope. No idea when it's supposed to come either. Kinda worries me. They're supposed to come out in 4 and 8 GB versions. IMHO, it would be a waste of time for them not to offer something in 16 GB at a minimum.

Can a ipod 5.5gen 80gb drop and drag?

Or do i need... itunes? Looks like a pretty sweet deal, plus 80gb allows for most of my FLAC albums.

I use a RockBoxed 5G 60GB IPod with an amp (Predator). I never use the headphone jack.

One of the RockBox devs is doing a lot of optimizations to improve battery life for the IPods - looks very promising.

If you are not looking to use an amp, you may want to consider picking up a Toshiba Gigabeat F40 from eBay. It runs RockBox very well and has excellent sound quality from the headphone jack.

With RockBox, you can can drag and drop - no iTunes.

Sweet, do you know how the SQ compares to the smaller flash players(with amp)

No amp atm, but I will be looking into that with some better phones when I have the money.

Cheers for help.

Thanks for the suggestion DJ but i don't like the style and most likely lay out of that player.

The Meizu music and M6SL are appealing to me... but with firmware issues? it doesn't seem very good worth the risk? Cheaper than the ipod too.. just no massive space hehe. Actually 72gb less for $90 less >_>

Edit: Looking into the Cowon D2, it seems nice, also having the ability to add a SD card. but its limited to 3k files?? I have over 3400 files(mp3 and FLAC). Is it 6k files with a SD card in?

What is the Sandisk Sansa View 16GB like? and Iaudio7?

Edit: I plan on using Vsonic R02-Pro to start off, then maybe progress to an amp.

i own two trekstor vibez 12gigs. the sound quality is the best i have heard on ANY player, including a rockboxed ipod, and a cowon. vibez all the way for sound, although the build and customer service is weak.
