I've recabled Grado's . Get the leather glove and blow drier out. It is not rocket science to crack them. I'm sure you can find others if you look around. I have a pair of recabled headphones from Alex. Great work.
Recabling the non wooden Grado's is no problem. It is pretty easy to open them and there is a lot of information on this here on Head-Fi among other sites. Wooden based Grado's are a whole nother story.
In the end I suggest just getting the RS-2's and if you like them enough to keep them only then begin looking into getting an upgrade cable.
Another small thing to consider is that the ALO-modded SR225 still uses the pathetically cheap unpadded vinyl headband. The RS-2 comes stock with a nice padded leather one.
