I've always wondered why a lot of the reviews seem so few, and (some) quite outdated. I understand that they're reserved for full-length reviews, but it is a bit odd not to have more.
While this is news to absolutely no one, the various equipment threads have been kind of choked with a bunch of "This or that" and "What should I buy" threads. If there were more reviews sorted into that subcategory, do you think that people would ask these questions less? I personally don't think so... but at least we can point them to the review sections in a tone similar to that of a kindly request to use the search function before posting.
As for encouraging people to make full fledged, full-length reviews... I don't know how that could start up. Perhaps have some of the older, well-established members get sent review equipment from vendors to write such articles? I still consider myself a newbie (with bad taste in music), but I know that there are still quite a few with excellent ears and a knack for writing.
Just an idea.
