Exactly my thoughts, you were just less tactful and more up front about it!

Nice headphone!!

How does the HFI-780 sound?
I like it a lot - lots of really deep bass (no midbass hump), lots of treble (not really fatiguing though), still great midrange, very precise and not muddy at all. Isolation is ok as well.

The only letdown is the soundstage... guess with all that overexcited market speech about "S-Logic" I was expecting them to have the best soundstage since... sliced bread. Well, my old DT770 have a better soundstage.

Build quality and comfort is so-so, but you probably can't have it all for that price.

780's are good for rock, eh dfkt?
Yes, they certainly are... but I like my Jazz, Metal, Bossa Nova, etc, with a little more bass as well. For me, they work well with a lot of genres.

dfkt,

I am sure this has been mentioned before, but do the 780s have a detachable cable like the PL2500 or is it hardwired in?
Nope, only the Proline phones have a detachable cable, afaik. (I did try the immensely overpriced Proline 750 as well, and I hate it. )

I've fallen in love with canola2, a media player for Nokia N800. unofrtunately it doesnt sound as good as my D2 or clip, but i just love the interface, makes coverflow look like MS paint. Im hoping someone will port the necessary **** to make USB DAC's work on the thign, if so il seriousely consider using this thing as my main unit.

Pics and vid of the interface:
