NO DISC problem, pls help (Sony D-E705)

Here's the prob. after inserting and playing the CD, the lcd lights up, disc spins, then after a few seconds, the lcd displays NO DISC and then after a while the cd stops spinning.

Tried tilting the player on different angles and on flat surface, still the same problem. What could be the cause? any suggestions on how to repair it or what to check on the player. Thanks in advance.

Bad laser? Worn out spindle motor? Contact local Sony service center.

Discman Symptoms, Troubleshooting and Repair

Hi All, I just aquired a Sony D-242CK Discman from a neighbour with the comment that it didn't work. On evaluation, the unit demostrated the following symptoms:

- High frequency of not mounting CDs or CDRs with auto shutdown.
- Badly skipping throughout CD if it mounted at all.
- Improved function when held vertical as compared to flat.
- ESP on, made things worse.
- Performance on inner tracks was worse than outer tracks.

Troubleshooting:

- Cleaned lens (alcohol) with no improvement.
- Cleaned/lubed (silicone grease) worm screw and rail. Some improvement to mounting frequency and skipping.
- Spray lubed (liquid wrench with teflon) spindle motor. Minor additional improvement.
- Soldered a permanent quick connect jumper socket to the test terminals. Could not get unit to enter test mode.
-Adjusted RV501 (metal pot type - tracking gain???). Unit now always mounts CDs/CDRs with some minor sensitivity to skipping on track 1 only (10-20% of the time). ESP on and unit lying flat seem to continue to make it more sensitive to track 1 skipping. Otherwise, the unit is now useable.

Help requests:

- Does anyone have a service manual for this or a similar model? Three metal pots, excluding laser power adjustment.
- Can anyone confirm the function of RV501?
- Does anyone understand why the unit will not enter service/test mode (i.e. low voltage, etc.)?

All feedback would be greatly appreciated!!!

D25 Does Have Power...is battery dead?

Hey Duncan...After a few months of letting my D-25 sit in a drawer, I re-read your post and gave it a try. Bingo! LCD lit up and cd spun and I got good sound for about 45 seconds...then the cd spun down and it stopped. LCD does flash when the start button ispushed, but that 's about all...

Could it be the lead cell battery is dead? (last one cost me $60 from Sony)
Shouldn't the D-25 work on AC power alone?
Do I need to think in terns on poping the case and checking regulators?

Help..I'm stumped!

If not (and i'm guessing not) then there could be a problem with the DC jack on the player, maybe its been wiggled around a bit,
Although, worse case scenario, your D25S could be like my D311, where one of the regulators has gone, and now all I get is a whistling noise (quiet) out of the headphone output as soon as the batteries are inserted, and the unit is otherwise completely unresponsive...

Need help opening Koss CDP 132 vintage PCDP

I'm having trouble opening my vintage Koss CDP 132 PCDP (manufactured 1995). I've removed all the screws and I've gotten the from and back to open, but there seem to be two push-tabs on the sides I can't get. I don't want to pry the plastic too hard because I'm afraid it'll break. Does anyone have any tips for getting it open?

I have a D-141 with an RV501 pot that has the letters TB also, which according to lamerdeluxe stands for Tracking Balance http://www4.head-fi.org/forums/showt...tracking<br />

Now I read the whole article which was informative but I had no luck fixing my D-141. The laser can recognize disc or no disc but can't find the tracks; after trying for various lengths of time, (depending on the RV501 TB setting) the player shuts itself off. I also tried adjusting the T-Gain and F-Gain. Any suggestions? I also read about lubing the laser control unit (which I already fixed, now the laser doesn't slide freely) and various other procedures to try.

I too am looking for a service manual, repair guide...

Sony D25 Track Skip Problem

I have a Sony D25 that plays fine except sometimes it won't switch tracks when I use the track change buttons. The track number in the display changes, but the player can't seem to find the new track. If I let the CD play all the way through, then it will work again, at least for a while. The transport is quiet, so I don't think it is a lube probem. Any ideas?

free Sony Car Discman D-824K

Hi all,

I've got an operable (but slightly imperfect) Sony Car Discman D-824K Manufactured April 1994.

The only real issue is that one side of the hinge on the lid has chipped off (the tiny pin on the 'body' portion is OK - but the 'socket' for the pin is broken on the lid)

If you put a rubber band around it (to hold the 'hinge side' closed), the unit works fine.

But I've moved on to an MP3 player and don't want to deal with the repair and/or rubber band.

Does anyone in the group want the unit to use for parts and/or to repair it?
