Prices can't be hijacked by a forum post; only by a purchaser shelling out the cash.

So, please illuminate us as to where you've spotted such rare beasts trading for such low sums.

The drivers inside the SS-100 are certainly of high quality and the headphones themselves are very handsome, but frankly, in stock form they don't sound very good. This isn't to say that in the hands of a determined experimenter (like DAC, who has shown a willingness to tackle some of the more difficult isodynamics/orthos) they couldn't be wonderful, but the SS-100's treble peak is more difficult to tame than the typical ortho bass hump. It's not for beginners.

Nice dodge.
I've never seen a SS-100 go for under $150 but 345 EU is a bit nuts even if I disagree with Wualta's take on the phones.

So far, for me, they seem to scale well and have improved with each successive improvement in amplification.

Looking at the bidding history, it's clear that some collector freak "really" wanted them.

So what now, you try to make market the price ?

I'm not much interested in the market price beyond saying that if you can point me towards a pair of SS-100s for $75 I'd snap it up in a second- actually I still would at $100 and wouldn't consider letting mine go even for 345 Eus.

I am the freaky collector. I still don't have them... they're on a way home
smily_headphones1.gif
, so I can't give you any info how are they and how they sound.
Speaking about prices and availability - maybe it's more available in US, but last time I remember the SS-100 appeared year ago on ebay... and they went for $405.
So if you want to have them you can't wait as it might happen in 1 year or maybe later or you will die waiting...

Which is why I've held onto mine.

Hi again, after a while!
Now after I had enough time to describe my first (and second
biggrin.gif
) impressions, I can drop some lines.
These are really great headphones. Amazing is that the soundstage not being as wide as I thought is so natural, with lot's of air in highs. All small details of sounds in high tones (like noises, echos, incidentally touched strings, etc) are so obvious and easily noticable without paying your attention too much, without attacking your ears. High tones are rendered very close to K340 electrostatic drivers. Bass can go down low enough without being too loosy. All those things put together make they sound so good.
Additionally what I absolutely love in ortho and I have not been disappointed also this time - sound of the piano, gorgeous.
Comparing to T20v2 soundstage is a little more narrow and sound is more springy and fast, not as warm but the air shows they're first-class and were released as TOTL. In other words I am really happy to have them.

Though I don't want to make any harm to them (decided not to mod at all) I am curious about mods. Where could I find any descriptions of the modifications and results?

Try them with some cello music.
Bach's cello concertos just make the hairs on the back of my arms stand on end when listening through the SS100s.
