Updated consensus on PS3 vs. 360
Feb 3, 2008 at 11:00 PM Post #16 of 46
I own both. I use PS3 mainly because of it's better GUI and media capabilities. When choosing games, I decide by which is the lead platform except for GTA IV. Burnout for example is the lead platform therefore it's better in technical terms, but theoretically identical. Also comparing Xbox Live and PSN is like comparing apples and orange as for now because Xbox Live has been out for 5 or so years compare to PSN's 1 year. It's free so who's there to complain? For playing standpoint via online is not much any difference to me in seriousness. As for Wii....... why? I really don't get it. But that's just me

I know you might think of me as Sony fan but I really don't decide based on company.... seriously, it might just think I love Sony because I have a lot of their stuff.

Anyways I would go for PS3, 360, lastly Wii. Give PS3 some time, 120 Million install base isn't just going to vanish.

I don't own any of the current-gen systems, but the Xbox 360 is first on my list. The Wii is limited by its graphical capabilities, at least in terms of the number of ports that can be made available. It's more difficult to develop games for the PS3, and many companies have had to make sacrifices regarding graphics and frame rate for PS3 ports. Plus, Sony's recent PR blunders haven't helped their case.

Wii's Virtual Console is very cool for oldschool gamers, but the Xbox 360 tends to have the advantage in terms of new games and updated releases on Xbox Live.

So, Xbox 360.

I believe Sony's single-player selection will definitely give them a good chance. Not everyone plays FPS games, or uses multiplayer for that matter. Their downloadables are also getting better. And cmon, low hardware fail rate.

I honestly think the PS3 is capable of catching up eventually. People refuse to acknowledge that it has good games, which is hurting sales. But this is Sony, the maniacal stepson of the gaming world, they won't go down without a fight. Anyone who doesn't believe that MGS4 and FFXIII aren't gonna sell numerous consoles is fooling themselves.

Ratchet and Clank is one of the most enjoyable and beautiful games I've ever played.

If you haven't, get the Orange Box and try Portal.

right now the xbox 360 is the better choice for gamers... i could say more but that's all i need to say

of course it's not too difficult anymore to justify a PS3 purchase it's in the same price range as standalone bluray players and it's a game system AND a decent bluray player that can eventually be firmware upgraded to profile 2.0 (last i checked it's still only profile 1.1 unless that update has been released in the last 2 days)

plus there are some good exclusives out now... and the playstation store has some decent stuff on it for download even if navigating through it is nowhere near as easy as the xbox live marketplace (plus some of the text is insanely tiny)

2008 will see some big potential for the PS3 to get good system selling exclusives hopefully it all lives up to the hype

of course i don't know if it's just mine but my PS3 constantly disconnects from the PS Network and constantly disconnects from my PC...

Mine does that too (wired). My 360 never did, until the Christmas Live Outage.

I bought a 360 for the games... and I HATE it. It's been nothing but bugs here, crashes there, overheating, dysfunctional internet connections, and red rings of death. It has the better games, but it's really a terrible piece of hardware. The fact that the vocal majority of xbox live players are obnoxious little brats doesn't help much either, especially when you're paying for the service (I no longer do).
I'm seriously considering selling it right now since I haven't touched it in 2 months. I'm just keeping it for Ninja Gaiden 2 and GTA4 right now, if they disappoint it's bye-bye 360.

My recommendation: N64 with Mario Kart! The epitome of the home console experience right there

Anybody else but me excited for Lost Odyssey or DMC4? I have it on pre-order and hope to get it soon. I like some JRPGs and standard RPGs, I also love fighting games, IMO xbox 360 has the best fighting games on it right now, also there is a huge back catalog of original xbox 2-d fighters from SNK, and Capcom. The only franchise it doesn't have is Tekken, and that may change in the future. I also think Square Enix still may port FFXIII to Xbox, I read a story last year about that, but haven't heard anything one way or the other, They still may if there isn't a really great installed user base by the time the game is ready for release. Also Xbox 360 is worth it just for Mass Effect, I think Halo is OK, but Mass Effect is one of my favorite games, graphically, plot wise, and in fun factor. I may want to get a PS3 at some point, but there aren't enough games for it exclusively that really appeal to me right now. However, I am thinking really hard about getting a Wii, so we shall see.

i guess that if i were to have a tv first and then get a games console, i would only get an xbox if there was a place to hide it. it is quite the design feat. microsoft hired a company and presumably paid huge dents but got a vertical dell that is sold to all universities i have seen but in a beige colour.

it does not look nice - even compared to the old one. the ps3 thoughi dont' care for tv game at all at least looks like it could fit near my nice md unit and speaker with a nice tv. i would pay for the looks alone over the 360.

sorry, there is no way to disuade this for me...

Huh? I understand that the earlier version's were a little flaky on reliability, but if you have bought one in the last 5-6 months, there should be no problems. I have never had one crash, overheat, RRoD or dysfunctional internet connections. The majority of ALL gamers are obnoxious brats, this is hardly a xbox 360 only demographic, PS3 just doesn't let you hear them...or anyone else for that matter...

my 360 red ringed but it is still my favorite console. So many good games and I haven't had to spend alot on my pc to play the good shooters at max settings because of the 360.

The RROD has me worried. I bought my 360 just before Xmas 2007, then found out about the high failure rate. (Explanation: console gaming was previously off my radar. But since I bought my HD-flatscreen last Black Friday, I've been looking for something more interactive; my 13yo nephew sold me on the 360.

)

I've determined that I have the new Falcon chipset and the ____ GPU (can't recall name right now). So we'll see.

I have gone through 2 360s with the RROD issue and it really turned me off to the console. The games that I did play I thought were great, it is just crap to release a product that has that many issues. I have heard that the new machines don't have the RRoD issue yet so hopefully they got that right finally.

I don't have a PS3 yet but I am thinking about picking one up sometime soon. I have played on friends machines a lot and I like the games that I have played so far.

Honestly our Wii has been getting the most use out of anything. It also has been consuming the most money for new games.

My latest one has a build date of 11/07 and hasn't RROD'd (yet

), but it still crashes/ stutters all the time. It still has problems scratching discs. And the internet problems are still there- it will let me get on the store and pay for content but won't let me download, and even more infuriating is that MS says they don't troubleshoot internet connections and that my ISP should know how to fix the xbox or I should ask for more bandwidth (both of which are completely ridiculous statements) despite the fact that all my other internet "appliances" are connected and work perfectly. The ONLY thing they've improved from old build dates to new (in my experience) is that the system is a little quieter, but it's still loud enough that my sister thought it was an air-conditioner the first time I brought it to my parent's home.
