i guess there was some damn nice logos given huh? you guys/gals who submitted should be proud of your work for sure!
Billy, when you have your National Meet you can choose the logos you want and how you choose them. Until then, if you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything. There was a group of people that spent time and this is what was decided. Instead of being negative, why not be happy for those that are in the running. I don't get it, we try to do something nice, give people a chance to win some prizes, and we get a bunch of negativity in this thread.

And yes, everyone should be proud of what they did. It wasn't easy for us to decide and felt that narrowing it down to a smaller group of entries from which the members could choose was going to be easier than letting the members choose from all the entries.

It was a toss up between 1 and 7 for me. Ended up voting for 1. After viewing the results, I'd rather have voted for 7, because it deserves better than just one vote.

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of that style, but it seems to be all the rage at the moment. I actually prefer it with a flatter look like this: http://www.head-fi.org/forums/3735769-post109.html

I also prefer the words stacked, but I guess the committee preferred the other one!

I wasn't sure whether I should post this publicaly, but I decided to do so, in hopes of grabbing more attention this way.

I understand that it strikes you as odd, that we're so negative. But for you guys, some constructive criticism should be valuable as well. I think I speak for several, if not most, of the designers, to say that we're shocked to see what made it to the final eight. I won't get into details, either, I don't believe such a thing is appropiate. And yes, I am aware of the fact one of my entries made it. But, even though one of mine made it, it wasn't my best one to begin with. And some of these entries don't have the effort put into them, nor the quality, that some of the logos in the previous thread had.

Then, adding the fact that the closing time of the poll is was wrong, I think this is enough to restart and reconsider the poll. Some of these logos are made in paint, of all things. I believe that the artists should be allowed to vote, of course not for their own designs, before everything goes public. That way, the people who have 'expertise' in designing logos can judge others on their work. The top eight (Or six) should then go to a public poll, and we can start over. Does that sound more reasonable?

Logos, pictures, art, all involve subjective like and dislike. So it comes as no surprise that I don't like some of the choices made by the committee but I certainly do like some of them. I'm sure narrowing down to finalists, which is a necessary step IMHO, was not a fun task and that the committee did the best that they could knowing full well that there were other worthy contenders. Some people around here really seem to have lost track that the whole point of this event is FUN.

I'll go back to voting and shutting up now.

I agree with you. It's about fun, but it's not fun when you've put hours on end in your work and then find out that something else made it. That happens, but this way, it doesn't seem fair. I don't know if you've made any logos, but it is how I feel - and I AM in the last eight. GTracer's logo was the most well respected one in the previous thread, and it didn't even make it here. That's, even if it's subjective, just wrong.

And it's not too late to change it, either.

I've created things to be judged before, yes, and you always go in knowing that in the end someone else might win even if others considered your work superior. Such is the nature of the beast and has NOTHING to do with fairness. And while I can certainly appreciate the amount of time and effort that went into creating these logos no one forced you or anyone else to do it and everyone knew the rules going in. Some would be picked as finalists and some would not. I see nothing that needs to be changed or corrected.

Seriously, I should shut up now.

All this bickering would not have been an issue if I would have entered, since I would have been clearly declared the finalist by everyone.

For all three prizes.

TWICE.

With a cherry on top.

You guys know I am jesting, of course. I don't like cherries.

HAHAHAHA!

Seriously now, don't lose focus. This was all in good fun. Sucks to be cut, but hey, there will be other contests for future events! You can count on head-fi to always challenge our artistic talents.

Besides, I am now looking forward to winning something raffled at the event itself, though I never have luck in such things. But here goes to hoping for a miracle!

You seem to misread my statement as negative, as i meant nothing as such towards anyone who spent the time to decide these finals entries. if there is anything else you don't get you can always pm me anytime T.

p.s.
These logos are getting me excited for the event!!!

It's too bad I will win all the raffles though. If anyone thinks they are going to win something at the event, my apologies. I am truly sorry! I don't mean to win them all, but that's just fate. That's life. That's the way the cookie crumbles. C'est la vie. Asi es la vida.

As for the final logos I like #1 best.

Wow, I just have to say some of you seem to be taking this contest way too seriously. Art is subjective, and everyone has their own preferences much like preferences towards different music genres. If you entered this contest, then you probably have some bias towards your own stuff. (Who doesn't think their own stuff is good when you enter a competition of any sort.)

I thought there were some good entries that didn't make it to the poll, but if you read the rules it's their call to make: The six finalists will then be chosen by the CanJam '08 organizing committee Just imagine the backlash if the sticked to the original 6.

I'm just wondering if some people just want the prizes that badly, or perhaps the recognition you feel you somehow deserve. Honestly, it's their contest and they can choose whatever they want which best represents what they are looking for. Maybe there should have been no poll at all, and the organizing committee should have just selected what they felt was the top 3.

If they end up using anything I made that would be cool. If I actually won a prize that would be totally sweet! But it's not like the end of the world if neither of those two things end up happening. I thought this was just a friendly competition that was supposed to be FUN!

My art is in these eight. It's not that I complain for myself, it's that I feel bad for the art I respect more than all the ones, including my own, that made it.

See above, first. But, aside from that, it's not about my own stuff, it's about other people's stuff. I feel sorry for them (Not that I'm not winning anything, but my art will get lots of views now, where theirs deserves as much, if not more, than my input.) and I hope to rectify it. It seems the commitee doesn't want to change anything, for whatever reason.

I'm probably gonna leave this discussion as is and merely hope for the commitee to reconsider, though I have my doubts that it will happen. Good luck to those who (still) have a chance of winning, though. It's not that you don't deserve it, in case you thought I felt that way.

Oh come off it and stop complaining. I speak for many when I say we don't want to hear any more complaining. ^_^

Please give it a rest alreaey. I'm sorry you put all this time in to the logo contest and feel that you and others were not treated fair. No one twisted your arm to enter. We certainly appreciated that you and others did. Remember, this is a logo contest for CanJam '08 nothing more. It was supposed to be something fun to get people excited for the meet. Otherwise, I would have just asked blessingx to create a logo, as he did last year, and that would have been the end of it. I would hope this whinning would stop so we don't regret doing this in the first place.

Billy, stop the bs. You know what you said and what you meant. I am not the only one who felt this way after reading your post. There were about 20 others at the meet who had the same reaction.
