The X-Fi static and popping noises

I have had issues with my X-fi since I bought it, I've had it with the NForce3 and NForce4 Chipsets as well as the 680I .
I am an avid PC, Builder, modder and gamer and the problem has always been present, but intermittently. Having jumped into audiopliledom with both feet this issue was driving me batty, experiencing hissing, static and pops on HD650's through a LD2++ was not enjoyable in the least !!!!

Today I found the answer..Setting/ changing the IRQ and a pci bus latency issue. After changing the pci bus latency for the X-fi from 32 (stock) to 64..all of the problems disappeared and my sound quality improved drastically. I searched this website for the same issue ( and found too many threads to count) and didn't find this simple fix. I hope it helps some of you!!

what did you change regarding the irq? I can change that in my bios while I need this program to do latency.

I'm not having the exact saem problem (different card) but I figure this is worth a try... static/screech is driving me nuts.

You can either change the pci slot to one that has it's own IRQ , change it via the bios or change it in windows. I simply moved my card to a slot that had it's own IRQ.

damn, can't do it through xp... gonna have to look up my mobo manual or try and find it because what it seems should solve the problem doesn't.

edit - no clue why but change the irq in my bios does nothing for it. strange. gonna have to manually try another slot, I can't afford any other solutions right now and I'm really sick of this.

yeah, I switched it to what appears to be the only slot on my mobo that has an irq all to itself. windows rediscovered it so I'm reinstalling drivers. hopefully it works.

Can you list your system specs?

*** Edit: Better yet..can you tell me exactly what it's doing and when and I'll try to help

let me start with, I appreciate it.

mobo- gigabyter p35-ds3r
auzentech is in the first pci slot not sharing an irq with anything.

speakers sound fine, but when I plug in the front panel headphone jack, I hear a high pitched buzz type sound.

the speakers have a headphone out type thing on a volume control piece, that sounds fine. haven't tried plugging the headphones into the back only because whether it buzzes or not doesn't really help me with the use of the front.

I tried using the front panel headphone jack once in the last 3 years....and it had serious issues..my advice..get a quality mini splitter and run it directly from the card....

ouch. I'll try right now and make sure it works right from there. if so I'll check online for some good cables I guess.

edit - no sound from back there... no bad sound, I mean. guess I'll be buying a splitter.

damn I liked that front jack too.

edit2- alright I found several posts on other forums with the same problem and using a splitter was the best solution anyone found, so, there you go.
