Yes, you should. It'd make a GREAT 32gb cf modded player. My 16gb sounds SWEET!!! I always liked the SQ of the Mini.

I don't know how to take apart a mini though....not to mention how to swap in a battery......

Never done any work on ipods before.

The mini is pretty easy to work with. I hadn't done anything with iPods before modding the ones I got off eBay. Only tools you need are a tiny phillips head screw driver (really tiny) and something to get the caps off (pocket knife for me).

iFixIt has a detailed guide for swapping the hard drive. Or changing the battery. It's really not that hard, I've just done it today for the first time and it worked well.

I guess I'll just have to be extra careful lifting that plastic bezel at the top....

Yeah, take your time with that one (also with the bottom plastic, too), it's kinda soft, then again I managed to get that off with a screwdriver without a problem and without major damages.

Was it still in a box and everything? That's a deal I think. Do you even get the warranty (that you will void the second you open it up hehe)?

I would imagine $50 is a bit much, but if it is 2nd gen and u want it then go for it.

Guess I'll share my experiences here as well...

So I got a few minis and 3G/4G iPods, all with dead hard drives (and some with dead batteries but I also got a lot of new 3G/4G batteries) for very cheap. I opened a Mini, popped a 4GB A-Data CF card in, connected a 3G battery (too bad that doesn't fit in the Mini case...), and connected it to my Macbook -- and it works! Restored the latest firmware and so far so good.

I'll order a couple of mini batteries and CF adapters for the 3G/4Gs from ebay soon -- anyone has any experience with the latter ones?

Went to the store today, somebody had already bought it.

If you want one, you can have one of mine for AU$40 shipped within Australia.

I have a pink one which is in pretty good condition, a few dings and scratches.
Also have a silver one which has more dings and the click wheel is a bit dirty. It has also been operated on and was my guinea pig for a diyMod. The diyMod was successful, but not as clean as my 2nd go on the blue iPod I'm using. I lifted a pad in the process, but the wires are down and you just need a capped LOD to use the line out.
Neither have disks (both dead) but the pink is a 4gb and the silver a 6gb, both 2nd gen.

I can post pics to show condition if you're interested.
