Yep. Friday they were shipped, arrived today. Congrats to EMS and NZ post, quickest i've ever received a package.

Anyhow, I put them on, and shoved in "Utada Hikaru - First Love". I think I understand how you can spend US$2000 on a headphone setup easy. And this D66 is a $100 one.. At least I have a (relatively) nice source, the MD-DR7.

One or two things though:

Compared to the D22, it's impossible to fold up. However you can make "snake-o's" by twisting 'em funny.

Compared to the D22, the build quality is better. No Squeak-O's here.

The D22 has better cords. I don't like the way the cord faces towards me, it gets in the way somewhat.

Sony gives a better pouch to a 9000 yen headphone than a 29000 yen MD player.

My feelings are this:

EDIT: Oh, and they smell funny. There's new car smell, new shoe smell, new book smell, I guess this is new Headphone smell. I prefer the book smell. But I don't think I can take points off for the SMELL of the thing, now

You prefer the dual cords on D22 compared to the single cord on D66? I really can't relate to that since dual cords are so much easier to snag and just plain suck

But congrats on finally getting them, and do try touching the cups because they really feel funny

Yeah, I dunno. I prefer the D22 cords, but that's only because they look easy to replace. I don't know how the D66 is wired but it looks trickier.

The cups are almost velvet like, hehe

. It feels like soft plastic.

I think the rubber paint is a functional component of the phone. I've been trying to work out what the differences between the phones are and at least some of the less resonant nature of the D66 must come from the deadening effect of that covering.

Is the inside of the 'phone covered in that stuff, too? The "saundo in diafuramu" on the D22 is clear, the one on the D66 is white. Could that make a difference? I don't have the '22 anymore so I can't compare them.

Wouldn't the biggest difference still be that they have different drivers, at least according to audiocubes the D22 have 30mm ones while the D66 have 40mm?
