Oh, Oh one place is still open"!! but the Super Bowl is on. I went out the door and remembered the game was on and went back in but oh god the anxiety. I jumped for the door again but couldn't open it. Images of soft easily washable toaster covers comes to mind and I can't even see the players on the screen. Ahhggggg.... .

If the price is right, just think of the possibilities! More than one cover. A mood cover, one for those rainy cozy days, sky blue. oh the possibilities. Oh pinch me, pinch me hard!!!

In all seriousness, I’m only covering mine while away at work to help cut down on the dust that seems to settle on my beautiful amp. You have to admit that a tube amp is just plain sexy and it’s really a crime to hide such beauty

Oh boy...I now regret my previous post.

Is it a worthy upgrade over Musical Fidelity x-can v3 ?

Sophia Princess Rectifier

Sophia arrived the other night, what can I say but OMG … wow \o/ … If I had any idea that she would be this great and so sexy, I would have ordered her over weeks ago

On first look, I noticed that she’s much bigger than the Mullard 5AR4 or the Tung-Sol 5U4G and she seems to run cooler than I would have thought for all that beautiful glow she produces. So far I’ve only had a few hours on her and in my opinion, she seems to produce a cleaner/smoother sound quality. Yes, I read that she also produces a “deeper, wider sound stage,” but I’m not really sure there’s that much difference to me as I've not had any issues in this department. The sound difference is so good, she's more than worth the price I paid

Thanks Jack!

Here's a few pics:

That Sophia looks great. When you get a few more hours on it could you give us a report on its sound? What did it replace? Where did you buy it?

I have to piggyback on WalkGood's impression of the Sophia 'Princess'. This was an outstnding upgrade to my Woo Audio WA6 SE system. The soundstage just expoloded and all those other things - low, mid and high - really came together in a tight concert for my ears. I am using HD650's and I could not be happier using the Sophia. I am glad I did not pay for the $500 of upgraded components as I would likely would not have enjoyed the experience as much as the Sophia upgrade on my standard amp.

breakfastchef, interesting to read your feed back, I too notice better mids and highs ... without losing the warmth and the depth of bass I love, as well as the cleaner sound signature I mentioned before. We were talking about her on #anythingbutipod irc a few weeks ago and after chatting with you on headfi I finally pulled the trigger, thanks for the push

Good stuff here. The Sophia tube looks fabulous, like a wonderful mega sky scraper in tube city. Anyone know how many hours the Sophia lasts?

Well that will be the be question. Mine is turning dark, which isn't totally abnormal and shows some impurities but that is ok. It sounds good. I hope they used a good vacuum and metallurgy. If they did then hopefully it will have a long life as long as the tube isn't stressed.

Great news, WalkGood. I am glad you also find this tube to be a significant upgrade. I am all about 'significant' changes to sound quality as I do not often appreciate little changes.
