Did you get to audition them first?

Well I just got my pair. Now for the burn in as they don't impress out of the box.

And yes, they do look better than the 750's. It will be interesting to note the changes they go through.

Really? I liked them out of the box okay, but then they went all fuzzy and dark the second day and improved over the next 7 days, going through a sibilant phase from 100-200 hours before taming a little. But, I didn't feel they were done burning in at 250 hours when I sent them in to be re-cabled with the Jenna Labs Cryowire.

However, the re-cabled Vampire Wire demo's I had from (before I sent mine in) ALO sounded wonderful with only 48 hours on them as they arrived. The ALO modded ones only took about 180 hours to be mostly done burning-in, and they improved the sound so far above stock that it wasn't funny.

I will most likely go that route. I may cancel my Ed 9 order, so much money. I look forward to impression of the 9's after recabling. How long will it be before they are back? \

Oh, the 780's are already limbering up some. I know they go through changes, just like amps with cap forming, though there is mechanical changes also to the drivers of these. It's an interesting journey.

how do they sound now vs your 750s jamato?

I blew a driver in the 750's and have one coming to replace it. But I had 1000's of hours on the 750's and they were a dream just before I wrecked the driver. The 780's have almost zero hours on them so they really can't be compared but if the 780's sounded they way they do and were burnt in I would give a big nod to the 750's without a doubt, due to a larger sound stage, better bass, more natural mids and clean and natural highs but at this point there is no validity to any comparison. The 780's have their plusses and all I can do is wait as they buuuurn in. I hope the 780's outshine the 750's and why not we always want to reach that higher plateau.

They are very different in sound. You may find that you just prefer the 750 over the 780. Nothing wrong with that. In this case you may also find that you would not like the UE9 since the 780 has more of what it sounds like than the 750.

Jamato8,

If you still get the Edition 9 and you don't like them, I'll trade you my ALO 780 with 6 foot JL cable and 1/8" plug + $600 in exchange for your used Edition 9. You could even throw in the stock 780's.

How's that?

I didn't bother, because I didn't want to bring my gear down. I always take a leap. I've been burned, and I've done very well. Out of the box, I like them, although FOR ME, any comparisons to the D2000s, or the D5000s, are absurd. Out of the box both Denons blow these away. Then again, the D5000 is the best headphone I've ever heard, so... But these serve a different purpose, and I have no regrets so far.

I originally bought the 750's because of a Headfier that was emailing me and he had heard both. He felt the 750's were close to the 9's and didn't feel there was enough of a difference to warrant the cost. He may be right but it was his opinion that the 750's sounded much like the 9's. I will have the 750's up and running in a few days and then burning in again but I would say that a different sound is fine with me. I like some white wine, though not much as I prefer red but it all makes for an enjoyable mix. Different venues, different sounds.

After almost 2 weeks of ownership I think these just aren't for me. I find them bright and harsh with too many of the details I'm used to hearing on the K501s falling behind the overpowering treble.

The "smoothness" I like just isn't there and I haven't had a single "wow" moment with them.

P.S. Please no one ask or suggest about equipment, I've used every variant of everything I have and nothing satisfies for the long term.

I don't hear the bright treble, and this can really bother me so that is a good thing. After just 12 hours of running these phones sound nice. As long as they don't do something odd, they are well worth the money. It will be interesting to see where they go.

Somewhere between 50 and 120 hours don't be surprised to just have to set them down for another 50 hours or so and not pick them up.

jamato8, care to describe the sound at the 12 hour stage vs your memory of how the 750s sounded? any bass to mids suckout around 300hz like most closed cans?
