So what's the word on the new Ultrasone HFI-780???? - Page 49

if you want to check out the JenaLabs cables to see what they look like here is the link to several sub-links that you can see how they are made and built. This may suggest that these are made to be open for best sound and Ken would be going against their essential design if tex-flex is used.

Welcome to JENA LABS home page

Here is a sub-link that is apparently substantially written by Ken of ALO. He has apparently partnered with Jena Labs to bring their style of cable to us as an option.

jenalabs headphone mod for sony R10

The HFI-780 sounds great to me out of the box and for 199$ that was such a surprise when I compared it to my UE9. I am getting the upgrade due to the internal work and better cable that I will get with the re-cabling. I did not like the stock cable. So if you are hesitant just get the stock version and later if you want re-cable.

He has said that this adds some microphonics that otherwise is not there but if you want to take the chance. If looks are more important than the potential sound degradation get the cover on it. You can check out some of his other re-cable jobs on his web site if you want to see how this looks.

Example of the Grado 225 with upgraded wood cups ( much like the RS-1 wood cups in size now) and cable:

I just ordered Ultrasone HFI-780 Mod,also with Tex-Flex,It should look awesome.

I know it's a bit unfair but...

AD2000 to HFI 780/ALO 780 comparison? Is the AD2000 better?
probably something of a matter of taste. I have and love the ad2ks but I want to get the 780s for a different sound. That said, I am also interested in a comparison if someone has them to compare

One or two days I should have mine and then I will let them burn-in between listening. I am already thinking of how to recable.

Velour Pads for the 780s ?

Does someone know if the velour pads that are available for the PRO-750s would fit one the 780s ?

Thanks
The 750 has round pads, the 780 pads are oval.
so can anyone comment on the dimensions of the pads? inner height, width and most importantly depth. as i have no way of testing these before buying i'd be really grateful if someone could tell me the approx dimensions so i can estimate how they would fit for me.

Thanks for the info.

I think we should put some pressure onto Ultrasone to produce velour pads for the 780s ASAP

Cheers

The dimentions are somewhere in the "something about ultrasone" thread. I can't measure right now, sorry.
I just measured my HFI-700 pads (same ones as the 780). The depth is 1.9cm (call it 2cm, because my pads are old and deflated), the height is 5.5cm, and the width is 4.5cm. I would call my ears average size and I think the pads are a little on the small size. My outer ear rubs against the inside of the cup and they feel just barely tall enough to accommodate the top of the ear and the lobe comfortable, but they do do it. Width is not an issue. I actually did a pretty sweet mod to make my HFI-700 more comfy, but I don't want to put it up until it's finished.
