So what's the word on the new Ultrasone HFI-780???? - Page 48

While it may seem odd, I like the cable that comes with the Sennheiser 650's. I have silver cable for the 650's and the stock really is good so I ordered a couple of extra and am going to recable the 780's with the Sennheiser cable, after they break in and I can gauge if good or bad.

There is always people who don't like something for whatever reason.
How do you guys like ALO cable job, comparing to something like APS cables it looks very DIY?

The think I like about many, not all, manufactures cables as they are normally more pliable and just feel better and often more durable. This is not the case with the RP-21 and maybe not the quality of the 780 cable but I like the cable of the HD650's and a few other phones I have more than even my after market cables. I also like the cable of the Proline 750 but I realize the benefits of SQ that can be obtained, I just wish they weren't as DIY looking and more pliable.

Ken will put tex-flex (or whatever it is called) over those open wires if you want. It is up to the one ordering what he wants. He has said that this adds some microphonics that otherwise is not there but if you want to take the chance. If looks are more important than the potential sound degradation get the cover on it. You can check out some of his other re-cable jobs on his web site if you want to see how this looks.

Example of the Grado 225 with upgraded wood cups ( much like the RS-1 wood cups in size now) and cable:

Yes he puts some pretty covers on his wires doesn't he. As I remember he has three maybe four different covers to select from.

You never know....
LOL well hopefully these won't end up on the wayside...

kinda off topic, but the D2000s were FOTM... have they achieved "classic" status yet? LOL but it seem like they were dethroned by these kinda quickly

APureSound looks good but is the cost? I realize there are many variations but some of the wiring gets to be too much, in my opinion and I used to make and sell hyper pure silver IC's.

True true... I'm checking out a pair on eBay... see if they'll accept my offer. LOL can't resist Damn Head-Fi... I just got my D2000s yesterday.

If I go the ALO-780 route, it would be to get the ones already modded from new cans, since I have NO intention of letting-go of my current 780's.

It would be cool to here others compare the two versions. Is it really a big difference or is it subtle? I swear if it's subtle, to heck with the modded version hehehe I don't even have a killer amp or dac, so I need to get that first.
