heres the hd650s if you want to compare. The hd650 actually looks like a bassier can from these graphs. Anyone compared them listening if this is the case? The 780 extends all the way to the lowest of lows though and has more deep bass

Not the fact that I can't try out or buy the 680's here in America. Ridiculous. This is what happens when head-fi newbies think they know something, and speak up.
you sir are also a head-fi newbie. just thought I'd point that out.

guitar center has the hfi-700s, but not in store. Perhaps down the road a little bit they will get the hfi-780s. You can always ask them to order a pair for the store.

guys, about the bassy can being less accurate issue... All I can say about that is most people need more bass in a can than flat to compensate for the feeling you get from bass travelling in air. Bassy sounds in real life(trucks passing by, thunder, big bass drum, etc...) give you a feeling that you can feel even in your stomach. With those sensations gone, different people need different amounts of bass boost in the response to get a subliminal feeling that something sounds more true to life.

In my case, I usually like the most bass possible without it intruding with other things in the sound. I also don't like a slow sounding bass. That sounds like a lot of bass right? Well, it actually isn't compared to what a lot of other people want. I actually feel my ad2000s are almost perfect in bass because its so well integrated to the rest of the spectrum in volume and speed. If the volume can be increased a little without it sounding slow, I wouldn't object to having more bass

very very good point. honestly I like having a bass slam also because it makes it fun to listen to my music, while others may not agree.

I love bass slam and bass in generally, give it a more "physical" feel IMO, but that's just me. That's one of the reasons why I bought the D2000s but not I'm not sure if I should get the HFI-780 as well, or the iBasso D2

i wonder if the new 2200's are the open versions of these...

How new are the HFI-2200's? Just got a pair of PROline 2500's and frankly they are awesome. I am going to have to talk myself out of getting another pair of cans for at least a couple months. The 780's look so cool and with all the praise they are getting it will be hard to control myself

The D2000 didn't have as much slam as I would have liked. In fact it had less than Grado's. I guess I was wrong.

I think most people like bass slam. Just to different degrees. some people feel that the akg k501s bass is correct and it has enough slam while to some these ultrasones lack bass to others. Different people compensate(using headphones) for real physical bass differently. Who knows maybe somebody paralyzed from the legs up like a flat bass response and feel it is the most accurate rendition of life because he cant get that physical feeling of bass in real life in the first place.

i'm guessing the differences are merely cosmetic. the old ones:

the new ones:

i wish they would make a closed version of the 2200s that retained that look and color scheme. i've been so charmed by them for so long...

I agree. Although the shiny silver looks fine, I could do with less on the 780.
