Not a problem for me either.

Gear mentioned in this thread:

And I don't think that you can make your proline 750 band grip tighter by bending it in, not for long at list.

i don't *think* i can make the grip looser, i *know* i can because i've already done it. there is metal inside of the white portion on the top of the headband. i bent it and made it looser by around 1 inch. now there's no clamp on my head. pretty comfy. and it does stay that way, unless u bend it back. same for the other way around, you can make it tighter if you want (although i don't know why anyone would want to, it's pretty tight as it is)

also i don't know how different the enclosure of the ed9 is relative to the prolines; it doesn't seem an awful lot different. i can see how adding wood or something else drastic would change the sound, otherwise i don't think there will be too much of a difference. certainly, as i mentioned, there are people who specifically said that pl750 in particular equaled about 90% of the performance of the ed9. so even if i was to take that as an exaggeration, it would still mean they're quite similar.

Well the cups are shallow....

Mine are nowhere near burned in but I think these may be too forward for me. As of right now they also seem to be tinny. I will say there is something about them that makes me just want to lie down, close my eyes and get swept into the music. Maybe since I haven't worn a closed headphone in years there's some acclimation that must occur.

So far I like their sound with electronic (EBM,Trance,...) and classical (Baroque, small ensembles, organ...) but not so much with thrash- everything else seems to become subordinate to cymbals and guitars sound chalky.... right now listening to Forbidden- Forbidden Evil and it doesn't sound terrible, some sibilance on vocals. I think these are very revealing of recording quality.

These AREN'T final thoughts and I just received these 5 hours ago so I still have burn-in to go through along with trying out other equipment so don't let this damn your decision.

Now for the only test that matters to me- The Kraftwerk Compliance Test! Either they play nice with, or they're out.

Just for reference I usually enjoy the analytical and would consider myself an AKG guy.

Old boy, but you have the headphones (no other have the same headphones (not as far as I know); and for you, that is a very easy to distinguish. After all; you aren't a novice in the audio, aren't you?

I will not bother you anymore if you give me a honest answer...

I haven't had time to do the "separation" comparison you have asked for, sorry.

I prefer the DT990's sonic signature, but that is a personal preference, AND remember my DT990's are 600 ohm.

Hehehehe, no worries mate. It wasn't my intention to overload you asking for comparisons, but sometimes knowing how something behaves compared to what we know, is the only way to get closer to the "picture".

Have a nice weekend

My HFi780's

If you read some of the earlier posts, my 780 died in the first 5 minutes on my head...i didnt even get to take the plastic wrap off. RMC refers you to the manufacturer for service (RMC's service was A+ as far getting what i ordered to my door in a surprisingly fast time). I contacted ultrasone to fix it. Ultrasone gave me an RMA number and promised tags, then i never heard from them again.

So i took matters into my own hands...

i disassembled this headphone. For their sake im not going to put pictures of how poorly constructed or glued together this thing is. The cups are gilded with metal over plastic on the caps. The drivers are glued into place, and the wiring that goes from the left driver to the right is so crappy and it is pinched in so many places that i am not surprised that these cans stopped functioning for me. There is also some circuit board on there, well i got rid of that too.

I recently bought a equinox cable for my HD6x0 so i had an extra balanced cable in my closet. I decided to put it to use.

I forgot exactly how it sounded since i only had it working out of the box for 5 minutes, but i think it sounds world class now. I didn't do that great of a job touching up the wire exits since i just wanted to make it work.

I think it lost some bass (still has a LOT, no longer clouds up the mids) and became extremely forward. These cans have the clarity and mids of my 701 with very controlled and massive amounts of bass. Quite an interesting mix. They sound airy for a closed can.

I think these can definitely give an edition9 a run for the money now Lol.

interesting development jh4db536. i'm sure ultrasone would have responded, they're probably just taking their time. as long as you're happy now

i'm curious about the circuit board. hardware crossfeed perhaps? some other algorithm that the ed9 shares to process sound? or merely overload protection? discuss.

Not sure what it is

maybe it's put in there on purpose to degrade the 780 below the level of an edition 9 hehe

out of the box, it clouds up the mids? Has that been mentioned before? That is one thing I really HATE with bassy phones. Anyone else have that problem?

They appear to be diodes, often used to protect the drivers from too much power. It is often felt that they degrade the sound though some well know and respected manufactures use them. And maybe they are there to degrade the sound. :^)

The Proline 750's have them. I have been intending to remove them.
The engineers put those extraneous parts there just to waste vast sums of company money....

And -- the person that received an RMA number for their non-working cans -- that is your clue to send the cans back for replacement. Why didn't you do that, instead of taking them apart? Please elaborate on this point?
And what is meant by a "tag" that was mentioned with the RMA number?
Trying to understand the last few posts here....

Sometimes for 200 dollars it just isn't worth it. If it was a bad solder maybe it was a cry to be recabled. :^)

So right now my D2000's are not really satisfying my needs. What I'm looking for is MORE bass impact which I am finding very little in my D2000's, and I guess a more suitable sound for metal and modern rock (e.g. foo fighters). I'm wondering if this is what the HFI-780 will bring to the table? I'm reading that the mids are better and it is an airier sound, and also that the impact of the bass is more than the D2000's. Just want to check with everyone here. Thanks.

It does have better bass and all you just said. I do think it is better for Rock then the Denon's and I own the D2000 as well and still like it but this Can, to me. is more suited to Rock as it has more forward mids and is a more aggressive sound, I just compared to D2000 and the D2000 sounded so soft compared to the Ultrasone HFI 780.

I am enjoying it as it's burning in.
