There isn't one. The diodes are soldered directly to the driver + and - .

Gear mentioned in this thread:

Ok, I found it, here you go. I don't know how well it works, I don't know of anyone trying it other than the one who made the thread.

Well herro there! I am definitely making me first post on this lovely forum and I would like to ask how different are my HFI-700's to these new HFI-780's. I am about 100+ hours into burning in these 700's headphones and all of a sudden these new 780 bastards show up and I'm left to wonder what to think. Should I get the latest and greatest because the differences are negligible? Is there truly something better with those 780's because I'll go get them right now if they put these 700's to shame (I doubt it...)

The 780's being modeled after the Edition 9 would seem to have a different presentation of the sound from what you have. Hard to say how they would or wouldn't impress you.

Well I recently acquired the PROline 750's. I'm happy to say that I am just as happy with the 750's as I was with the 780's. Even better the cups are bigger, and the velour keeps me from sweating much if at all. The impact is almost at the level of the 780's, just missing a TINY bit, but it is more neutral (although not a neutral headphone). Soundstage is a bit better as well and the bass extends further. Seems like I'll be happy with the PROline 750's for awhile. Ultrasone makes very fun cans I must say. Someone once said that the closest to subwoofers they have heard in a lower priced closed headphones were contained in Ultrasone headphones, and I must agree on that point. You can really feel the deep bass. I'm not touting either the HFI780 or 750 as the best headphones out there, but for me and my rock, they are WONDERFUL.

Okay, I pulled out my old HFI-700 DVD from mothballs and took a listen to them just now. This is a pair that was Florian Koenig's personal pair (bigshot at Ultrasone), and signed by him at a head-fi meet in 2006, so I am trying to preserve them. I don't know the differences between HFI-700 and HFI-700 DVD.

I have spent the past 2 hours listening to Grado RS-1 and switching to the HFI-700 DVD was not a big shock to the system, or a major let-down. In someways the stock HFI-700 are better than the stock HFI-780 - the bass is less overpowering, and the highs are smoother and not sibilant. The HFI-700 DVD that I have are very enjoyable still.

However, the re-cabled HFI-780 have just as tight of bass control but with more power and presence to it, are a little more detailed with more layering, and they have a deeper soundstage (both have a very wide soundstage). I don't see why the HFI-700 couldn't have similar improvements if re-cabled.

Unless you plan to spend $125 - $250 to re-cable a pair of HFI-780 I would just try to enjoy the HFI-700's - However, the HFI-780's do seem to be a little more involving and suck you in more, being mesmerized a little. Kind of like, "I have to stop listening now, well maybe one more song, Oh, it's 1:00 AM already".

Okay, well, I can't seem to take these off and go back to the RS-1's yet, just let me finish the song, and then I'll pack the HFI-700 away again...

Well, 45 minutes later I am still listening to the HFI-700 DVD, and one area where the HFI-780 are better is with pianos - they just seem a little artificial with the 700's. But guitars, vocals, drums, cymbals, saxophones and violins sound pretty good.

You see, I love these HFI-700's it's just I want some more mids; can anyone understand what I mean? Are those 780's a little warmer? I hear that they have a better bass sound-stage in comparison with these 700's. (BTW, I am a basshead) Sometimes I just can't but help myself to more bass. I love rock (all type of it) music/techno and I wondered if I love bass so much should I skip over these 780's and just start saving for HD-650's with a decent amp?

The 780 has more/deeper bass than HD650.

Based on your new symptoms, the differential diagnosis says you would like the HFI-780's, except you have to ask the question - do you like a Grado SR-325i-like treble?

If the cups on the 750s really are bigger, I'm sold!
