It is a multichannel sacd, but all multichannel sacds also include a stereo layer.

I just received this in the mail (from elusivedisc.com), and both the 5.1 and stereo mixes sound absolutely incredible. The surround mix is particularly well done. A must buy for the sacd fan, and an amazing way to start into sacds for the newbie!

Both of my SACD players (SCD-C333ES and NS-500V) are in stereo-only setups, so I've only heard the stereo mix (and only on my SCD-C333ES). It is, as AdamP88 stated, incredible. This is an album, like many of you, I've heard countless times, and this one's a revelation. I haven't listened to the CD layer yet.

Just picked up my copy from BB after work and I'm listening to it as I write. It is amazing! I also picked "Reggatta de Blanc" from the Police. Anybody heard that one yet? BTW, it will/would be awesome when someone comes out with a portable SACD player...

regards

I had a chance to buy the DSOM hybrid CD/SACD today. I listened to it in my car, and then this evening at home. As I don't have an SACD player, I could only listen to the red book layer. I have to say it sounded great.

This disk sounded better than any other digital version of DSOM I have ever heard. Makes me wonder if my ears will be even be able to appreciate the improved sound of the SACD layer, given how good the upsampled CD layer sounds.

Having recently dug out and listened to my Mobile Fidelity Ultradisc CD of DSOM, I would say that the new release is vastly superior to the Mo-Fi version. The new hybrid release sounds very much like the original LP release, but also different in some ways. I can swear that certain tracks were time adjusted to be a little quicker, to better blend bass lines together where one track ends and the next begins such as the transition from Brain Damage to Eclipse.

Maybe I should go to Tower and look for the DSOM LP 30th anniversary release while it is still available. Nah!

HD-600 => stock cable => Dynaco SCA-35 (matched quad of NOS RCA 6BQ5 tubes) => Magnavox PCDP. Not exactly a high end player or amp, but this rig really brings out the bass in the HD-600s. DSOM sounded great.

Got my hybrid DSOM at local BB this evening and it is indeed $11.99 price.

Nice booklet but overall graphics are cheesy for booklet cover, CD label, tray insert etc and don't look anything like special 30th anniversary edition, could have been much better in this dept. Actually looking at my 1992 capitol remastered CD the graphics/packaging are superior in every area.

Don't have SACD player, but will do careful comparison with previous versions and see how it stacks up for CD playback.

Well, like everyone else I couldn't wait and ran to my local BB and picked up DSOTM (it was $13.99 here, oh well). It sounds incredible! I read a review of th SACD portion and they were spot on, they don't make heavy use of the center channel (this isn't a movie right?). So the vocals sound like they are centered in you room instead of over near the TV.

I'll be the first to admit, I'm not a HUGE Pink Floyd fan, but this SACD certainly makes me enjoy it more than ever before. A great SACD even for the "casual" Pink Floyd fan, and those who want to show off their SACD player.

Enjoy!

got my copy at the local best buy and it was 13.99, so what was said earlier about the store and internet prices not being the same were correct. I agree with da, the packaging is not is good as what I would have expected for a 30th anniversary edition, the twentieth was much cooler and more extensive, you would think that for a big step up to sacd they would have done something extra special. plus they could have gotten more $$$$$$$ outta us all!

I just picked it up at the best buy near me. It says $13.99 on the disc, but when they rang it up, it came up $11.99.

I don't have an SACD player, but I don't have any previous editions of it on CD. Dark Angel, I'm curious to know how it sounds compared to previous versions.

hey guys, i ordered the cd off the bestbuy website. they haven't sent me a confirmation email, or an order number. this isn't normal right? i still haven't been billed for the transaction yet.

maybe since the cd is on order they haven't sent me an email yet? i bought beck's seachange on SACD and they sent me an email straight away.. something fishy?

I haven't heard previous versions of the Redbook version, but it sounds great to my ear. As does the Stereo SACD Mix.

I listened to the stereo SACD and CD mix and they sound great although I wasn't blown away, but man I just listened to the multichannel and it was a pretty amazing experience. Wow.

Seems like Pink Floyds music lends itself well to multichannel, and the Multichannel mix was quite interesting. They didn't push the vocals all to the center channel.
