Just picked up a used pair of these today for £39.00...I think I got a bargain!

Seriously comfortable phones, very smooth sounding, nice to finally hear that famous liquid midrange too :)

I'm on my second pair of SE530's got them about six months ago. Something I've noticed about these that seem different than my first pair (about 1.5 years or more ago) is that the nozzles seem to have some sort of silver metal filter inside them, just inside the tip. Has anyone ever experimented with removing this? Or heard of others removing this? I honestly can't recall seeing these in my much older pair of SE530's and as well, this latest pair seems to sound a slight bit different than my older pair ... a little flatter and not quite as deep in the bass ... but still very nice sounding.

Just a recent observation ...

I used to like the SE530's and then the Westone 3's came along and then I liked those bit better and then the JH13 Pro's came a long and then. Let's just say they're both collected dust.

Also, for anyone using the yellow foamies (as I do almost exclusively), be sure and realize that you can wash them over and over with your choice of soaps (I use dishwashing liquid); not only does this clean them excellently, it also restores quite a bit of the foamies elasticity and expansion properties (which seem to fade the dirtier they get). I've washed my pairs five or six times now. My original package of foamies, bought about six months ago, is still going strong and I've not had to order more yet.

Just a friendly SE530 FYI.

Hello everyone!

New to head-Fi, and this is my first post.  I have to say I completely agree with the finding that the tonality of the se530's are sensitive to how far down the nozzle the foam tip is placed.  It dramatically changed the high frequency extension on my set, but the change was not limited to just the high frequencies; imaging and bass were affected as well.

Inserting the nozzle into the sleeve until the foam went just past the 'barb" (to prevent the foam from sliding off the nozzle when removing the iem's) increased high frequency extension, widened the soundstage, but reduced bass output somewhat.  To my ears, the iem's morphed from somewhat dark and closed in to something that now had a bit more transparency and air.  The change was welcome so any decrease in bass was more than an acceptable trade off to me.

As mentioned by the OP, I cannot be certain what caused the transformation, but I suspect it has at least something to do with altering the length of the nozzle with the placement of the foam.
