Or Spritzer could have heard one of the bad ones then the one that Larry heard in that meet that everyone liked could have been one that was manufactured right :)

I supposed he heard at least a couple of pairs, including the pair he re-cabled for Elephas. (and Elephas liked that pair alright).

Oh then thats a different story. I myself have wanted to listen to these cans since they were first made. I think I read once that they were China's answer to the Orpheus or something like that.

This matches my experience as a Jade owner. The build quality (on my pair at least) is abysmal, and I've had nothing but problems with them.
Sound-wise, I can see--or rather hear---why people are fans of them. But based on my experience, I'd personally never recommend them to anyone as an investment.

It looks like Aaron and I have been blessed with good luck with our Jades as I also have not experienced ANY build or quality control issues with my pair of Jades which I've had for the past two years and have taken with me to several busy meets, have dropped them myself on more than one occasion. Physically I find them more durable than my Lambdas and far more than my Koss ESP-950 which has had headband issues from day one. Mind you, the forums here have only revealed 2 or 3 naysayers to date about build quality, hardly an overwhelming majority of owners. I'm not holding on to them for investment purposes, and I'm certainly not parting with them anytime soon as I highly value their sound signature and the aural enjoyment I get from them almost daily.

I'm glad you haven't had any issues with yours. Just to clarify, by "investment" I mean it not as trying to make a profit off of them but in a general sense, as in spending money. Whether or not it was your intention, you make it seem like I'm being petty by saying you're not "keeping them for investment purposes ... as I highly value their sound signature " as if I'm somehow suggesting you buy headphones for making money and not for listening enjoyment primarily.
Since most of the Jade owners on this forum have had good experiences with theirs, I think my negative testimony is all the more valuable to anyone who is considering spending the money on these. It's great that, overall, they seem to be working out for people. But problems do exist in a few of them at least, and so it's important to take that into considering when buying. But hey, nothing is ever totally problem free right? Best to hear both sides, especially considering how expensive stats can be.

Would it be fair to say that the current Jades are relatively trouble-free in comparison to the earliest models?

I've heard 5 sets now, a couple of those were 1.2B's though. All sounded similar enough, flat, boring and lifeless with 2D soundstage. Two were even offered to me free of charge since they were broken but I just fixed them up and sent them back.
As for these being handmade, that is very much true but since I'm in the business of making handmade goods all day I would fire anybody that made anything like the Jade. They don't even try to build these things properly and no thought has been made to how earpads should be attached, cable strain relief or even the basics like baffle seal.

I am far from an expert on stats but I loved these headphones when I had them. Having said that, the build quality is suspect at best.

I just received mine and I am very impressed with the low bass frequencies and the liquid clear mids and highs, fantastic phone.
