Not a fallacy. All else being equal, distortion increases as the frequency gets lower, or as the response in the lower frequencies increases. No headphone driver I know of (not even plasma drivers) is an exception to this.

I am now really curious about how these would sound (and another comparison with the HE60) on a KGBH or KGSS? The real question is might the amp biased for HE60 (560v) show a lesser result for the he1.2 / 1.3? The Woo is one of Kevin's older designs, so some of this may be synergy with the amp, and not a true test of the headphones, ceteris paribus.

NOT defending he60 - more curious how these phones will sound with MY amp. Guess there is only one way to find out.

We will be comparing the 1.2's/1.3's with other stats on a number of different amps (ES-1, 007t etc.) at the Mayberry on Acid meet next Saturday.
Checkout the impressions thread when it comes out. It should be an interesting mix of opinions.

Who in Seattle is getting one?? Come on, there must be some rich audio folks up here.

that should be a very good impressions thread, assuming people can stay sober enough to remember anything.

The GES as design lacks the necessary ingredients to make the HE60 sound good. They like good, clean power which the GES has neither. It could be made a whole lot better by replacing those awful coupling caps but it will never have the power needed. It's the same old story of capacitor coupling vs. direct/transformer coupled. It is the same reason why the He90 sounds good on the Aristaeus while other, more natural and neutral headphones, sound less then stellar.

Birgir, any comments on the HeAudio amps?

The tube amp looks like a variation of an old 60's design that Stax published. I like the use of ECC99's as it is a very good tube indeed.

If the SS amp sells for 500$ if looks like a good deal or on par with the 323 in build quality.

Wow, just wow!

I've been looking at electrostats as exceptional clarity is my next goal to complement my current rig.

This is definitely the most evil of places...

What are these...version 1.1's with velvet earcups? And a tube amp? Is this amp a DIY or an earlier version prototype?

Where did the pics come from? The 2006 National (I heard rumors about a new stat there, but never got to see them).

Enquiring minds want to know

That is at least one of the prototypes. There were pictures posted of it early last year in the Stax thread. I do find it odd that the designer didn't pick up on it right away that velour pads can not be used with electrostatics.
