Coming Soon!!! Cary SLI-80 Signature F1 - Page 2

Congrats!

That there amp is sure purty.

As a former SLI-80 Sig owner, I would echo the recommendations for pairing with some fairly efficient speakers if dynamics are important to you. EH KT88's helped with this somewhat but I found the Penta Labs Shuguang KT88s to hit a home run tonally for me.

Not only is it beautiful to look at, it is beautiful sounding as well. I'm sure your going to love it.

I too owned this up for a little over a year. I tried KT88, 6550, KT90 and EL34 output tubes and strangely enough I found I preferred a quad of Mullard X2 El34's as my favorite output tubes in this amp. I really didn't give speakers a fair try since this was in my headphone only rig. I sold it and bought a Cary SEI300 but have fond memories of the SLI-80. Very nice amp.

As promised...

I am using Ediswan CV2492's (platinum grade) in the 6922 slot, and Pope 6SN7GT's. I bought both sets from Kevin. Absolutely NO complaints about the sound, which is much better than with the stock ElectroHarmonix tubes.

Cool! Thanks

I think I'm going to try a set of the Telefunken CCa's with the Pope's!!!

Aloha Skylab,

As a fellow JVC DX1000 fan, I think you will love this amp. If serious, talk to Kevin Deal at Upscale Audio about the amp. There are a number of very worthwhile upgrades to this amp that you can only get through his shop.

I just substituted Winged C EL-34's for the Winged C 6550's. WOW! Gorgeous sound. Simply wonderful and the best headphone sound I have ever heard.

Now, what would some good NOS EL-34's do?!? That way lies madness!!!

Have fun tuberolling with your new SLI-80!

Congrats on a stunning amp!!! The New Sensor Mullard El-34 reissues sound like they might have some of the old Mullard magic and at a less silly price, and I've heard the SLi-80 sound fantastic with 6ca7s Fatboys as output tubes, punchy and dynamic but still with that magic midrange. It's a genuine classic, and I sure wish my Stingray had a headphone out...

best,

o
