The proud winner of a Virtual Dynamics Master LE 2.0 Digital cable

Well, the recent Virtual Dynamics digital cable contest came to a close at 2 a.m. on Monday morning. It was fun and all the entries were very creative. Matt gave me quite the scare when he said VD was backing out of the contest and couldn't afford to give out the cables. I went on to post how unethical that was for a Head-Fi sponsor to do, if in fact he was serious. I woke up this morning to find out it was just a rather tasteless joke. Whew!!

Anyway, all 5 entrants will be receiving digital cables. I was thrilled to find out I placed first, winning their $2,000 Master LE 2.0 digital cable. Second and third place entrants will each be awarded their $450 David Series 2.0 digital cables. I have no idea what the other two entrants will receive though. He has not posted the list of who came in what place, so if you entered make sure you stay up-to-date in that thread.

I am very excited and can't wait to try out this super high-end cable. Too bad I don't have any equipment truly worthy of this masterpiece, but a new transport and DAC will soon follow. As always, if a product is worth recommending to others, I do so with no reservations. I am also excited about using the Power 3 cord he sent me as well. (And I am also participating in the loaner program of the Master LE 2.0 Power cord, and will post my reviews after my 2 week possession of it.)

Thanks again to Virtual Dynamics and Acoustic Chef for all their generous cable and power cord contests and giveaways! You guys truly are good people and a pleasure to talk to.

Congrats. GOod works.

Congrats IPodpj! I am thrilled to win my David as well. Matt told me he would ship it out today or tomorrow. I will post a review and compare it to my favorite digital cable which is a Creative Cable- Silver Bullet.

I wish everyone considering a cable upgrade would check out this companies website and see what they have to offer.

Thanks! I just received the 2nd shipping confirmation e-mail from Canada Post. The first (several hours ago) was the electronic filing of the shipping, and the one I received a minute ago was the actual shipping confirmation.

I realized a little while ago that they are probably giving us the standard 1 meter lengths. The way my system is setup (and the only way it fits on my desk) I thought I would need at least 1.5 meters, but I measured and it turns out that a one meter cable should JUST barely reach, as long as the actual cable is 1 meter, not including the connectors. But once I get a separate transport, this won't be an issue anyway. What really stinks is that the Juli@ uses a breakaway cable with this little dinky thin wire going to the female jack. But even so, when I upgraded my stock cable to the Cobalt, it still made a huge difference.

I hope you guys enjoy your new cable! Congrats to you as well!

I hope you post some honest thoughts about how it sounds in comparison with your already expensive Cobalt cable. Hopefully you won't be too unconsciously biased since you didn't pay for this one.

Also, I hope you were already planning to upgrade your source, as building a system around a cable is a pretty hilarious idea. Especially a digital cable.

If you're going to ask a question, try to do so without being a smart ass please.

When I bought the Cobalt Cable, I did so only on a recommendation. I honestly felt there would be no difference whatsoever. The same goes for the Cobalt power cord. I even went so far as to insult those silly people who spend money on cable upgrades. I made quite the insult to Virtual Dynamics too some time ago, and later felt like a fool for doing so. In this hobby, anything you think you know 100% about audio at any given point in time, be prepared to eat your words later. Much to my surprise, the cable upgrades made a significant difference while the power cord made an even more significant difference.

After much research, I found out why digital cables make a difference. I've posted in threads about it before so feel free to search for it. The same with power cords. Power is the life-blood of your system. Just as your body cannot function efficiently when you put garbage into it, neither can your audio components. It's not that good cables are magically making your system sound better; bad cables are just preventing your components from functioning as efficiently as they can. Just the other day someone sent me a PM telling me they decided to by a Cobalt power cable for their Opera based on my recommendation and they were startled by the difference it made.

And yes, I picked out my next source upgrade quite some time ago. I would never build a system around a cable.

I also told Matt that I will only give my honest impressions of their products. Whether they were free or not has no bearing on my reviews. If they are crap, they're crap and if they are good, they're good. Do I think such an expensive cable would be crap? Of course not. I only have my other cables to compare it to and can only provide my honest opinions based on using it with the equipment I currently own. Only your ears will be able to tell you if the improvement in sound quality justifies the cost. I can only provide my opinion and hope to steer someone in the right direction, whichever that may be.

Hmmm, tasteless joke - or he got your point. Word of mouth is very powerful. Not coming through with that offer could have been a final nail in the coffin business decision.

Either way, I'm glad you and the others will be rewarded.

I had thought exactly what you just said Yes, this could be what really happened. I just really hope not.

Welcome to Headphoneus Supremus! That was your 1,500th post.

I assure you I wasn't being a smartass. I genuinely hope your impressions won't have that bias, as the ones about your Cobalt cables certainly did (though I can't say to what extent), since you bought them, particularly since you bought them on recommendation. I'm interested to hear them.

No, with the Cobalt it was exactly the opposite. Like I said, I completely went into it thinking they would make NO difference at all and was completely shocked by the result. It wasn't a personal recommendation, it was just something I read here on a post and then I went on to read Cobalt's main page. For their price, they are really some incredible cables and cords. I have zero affiliation with the company, I just love their products.

With regard to the Virtual Dynamics products, just because I am friendly with the people does not mean I will give a positive review if one isn't deserved. I review the product on it's own merit, nothing more. Customer service always plays into the equation of course, as I feel that along with a warranty is a big part of a product purchase decision. But of course that only applies if the product is worth owning to begin with.
