The MS400 are now on sale in Korea. It's a korean company, they are made in Korea, so the company doesn't have to worry about import taxes, or transportation costs so I'd have thought the retail price would be better or similar to the USA price. But yet again, WRONG! These are 350,000 won! That's $315 US on today's exchange rate. Much more expensive than the list price on the website.
So often, Korean made products are much more expensive in korea than they are overseas. Even my dad's Samsung TV was 5 quid cheaper in London than in Busan, Korea.
The trouble is that the import taxes are high here for foreign goods, so Samsung and LG among others know they don't have price competition, therefore can get away with charging pretty much what they like. Also, koreans are very loyal to korean brands, which the corporations exploit (can't blame them, if people won't shop around and look at other brands).
I'd like to support a korean made headphones, Phiaton, but I won't on this occasion. I'll be buying the Audio Technica ATH ESW9 ($246 today), or wait for the ESW10 to hit the shelves. Better value I may even imagine.
