Phiaton - latest attempt at "luxury" headphones - Page 4

Those red ones look gorgeous, maybe you could mod them with some Sen 650's?

Well they are apparently for sale now...

I don't think its the Ultrasone driver per say, specs are not identical, but certainly they did take a page out of that book - titanium drivers that tend to be even bigger than any Ultrasones (50mm on the PS500, wtf? that's huge, probably offers bass-galore).

I find the PS500 to be extremely interesting! I hope someone here post a comprehensive review soon.

The way they review the headphones itself is funny...

and when they try to be authoritative..thats where the humour lies

There was like one sentence about the sound quality. The rest was all about how cool they looked

Hmm...these look really nice...but what about the sound. I almost pulled the trigger before i noticed the y cable...not a deal breaker, but kind of annoying for home listening... Anyone else?

They've been made available quicker for purchase in the USA, than in the Phiaton home, Korea. Maybe going after the US 'Bose' customer. They are listed on shopping search sites here, but no price availability.

I'll maybe pick up a pair of MS400 around Christmas time, short on cash at the mo. They'll offer an alternative to IEMs at hopefully a good price.

The won has been losing value against the dollar recently, so I wouldn't want to pay $250 plus shipping to Korea ($250 - 285,000 won). The Audio Technica ESW9 are about $239 here, so a cheaper option.

Heh... I just got an e-mail from Phiaton's public relations people asking if I'd like a review unit of the MS 400 phones (I'm an editor in the B2B press). So I wrote back saying yeah, I'd like to try them out. We'll see what happens next.

The MS400 are now on sale in Korea. It's a korean company, they are made in Korea, so the company doesn't have to worry about import taxes, or transportation costs so I'd have thought the retail price would be better or similar to the USA price. But yet again, WRONG! These are 350,000 won! That's $315 US on today's exchange rate. Much more expensive than the list price on the website.

So often, Korean made products are much more expensive in korea than they are overseas. Even my dad's Samsung TV was 5 quid cheaper in London than in Busan, Korea.

The trouble is that the import taxes are high here for foreign goods, so Samsung and LG among others know they don't have price competition, therefore can get away with charging pretty much what they like. Also, koreans are very loyal to korean brands, which the corporations exploit (can't blame them, if people won't shop around and look at other brands).

I'd like to support a korean made headphones, Phiaton, but I won't on this occasion. I'll be buying the Audio Technica ATH ESW9 ($246 today), or wait for the ESW10 to hit the shelves. Better value I may even imagine.

Has there been an announcement about this model by AT, or is it just a guess? I'd love to have an even better make of my ESW9.

No guess, it exists.

Just wanted to say that a large driver doesn't automatically equal "lot of bass". Most audio-technicas have 50mm drivers but not all of them are bass monsters.

Any updates on these cans?

Did anyone order a pair of these, or is everyone caught in the D7000 / ATH-ESW10JPN hype?
