I'm in the same position as the OP, so many options, so many new IEMs on the horizon...the hardest thing is to make a choice at a certain point and stop waiting for all the potential wonderful new products to be released.
Anyway, I'm glad I don't have enough money right now to buy an expensive IEM.

I think they are quite great earphones for their price, but pretty sure the TF10s or SE530s would stomp all over them.
sf5pro are great earphones, no doubt! my only complain regards theri fit, which is, not an opinion, trust me, actually horrible!
However their SQ is very very nice!

Wow thanks for all the info guys.

Yeah heavily leaning towards the UE, basically because of their price (their 100 dollars cheaper than the shures) and free shipping from earphonesolutions. The shures are just a hassle to come buy, most stores that carry them are expensive or don't ship to the netherlands (buying in NL is just stealing from yourself).

I've read a lot about the Westone3's, their specsheet is crazy cause they have 3 drivers for the low, mid and highs. Which should be a very nice development, but I doubt I can wait that long.

Well I guess it's waiting until tuesday and ordering (maybe at Macworld some stuff will be announced, either mac based or IEM based (still waiting for dutch iPhone )).

So for now it's triple.fi 10's.

They are released now...but they aren't very good. tried them already. they don't come anywhere near the Shure Se530, Triple Fi 10 pro, or UM2's.

triple.fi or UM2? source issues flat response? etc.

Hi I'm looking to get myself my first set of IEM's... i'm not an 'Audiophile', but I have a keen interest in Audio both from a listening POV and a composer's POV. I have just an IPOD shuffle 1GB (heard its actually pretty good SQ as IPODS go) since my IPOD 3G got nicked along with my Sen CX500's. My home setup includes a MAC G5 tower with an RME Fireface 400 audio interface <-- very nice------optical out to ADA8000 8pre for surround applications and a set of KRK V8 powered Monitors and KRK RP10S active SUB. This set up is fantastic and I love it but it cant be lugged around with me.... also lately, since my work hours changed I don't have as much opportunity to CRANK IT so my question..... is.....ready for it...? Taking into account that i'm used to fairly high quality audio; will I be able to get away with the Super.fi 5 pro's or UM2's or should I just spring for a the Triple.fi's? i'll be using them the majority of the time on the move and on public transport to and from work but will spend tome no doubt using them connected to the superb headphone amps in my Fireface. I already have a tendency to buy/spend more than I can afford on electronics... not a good thing to have this tendency BEFORE I joined this forum from; what i've read so far it just gets worse the more time you spend here. I listen to primarily Electronica/electro/techno and minimal house but my collection includes myriad different themes... from jazz to punk to alternative to classical to industrial to trip/hip hopI'm looking at Portable headphone amps like the one by headroom and XIN (probably not XIN by what i've heard about delivery... bummer) fir my next purchase but it probably wont be for another few weeks to a month.

Any help with clarity would be appreciated... I repeat ... i'm not an Audiophile just an avid listener with discerning tastes.... leaning towards the triple.fi then UM2 then Super.fi ( not even going to entertain waiting for the Westone 3's) unfortunately there arent any sellers that will let me trial any phones here in OZ and anyway the price difference between here and US is huge. I'm sure I would be fairly happy with any of them, but when I spend this much DOSH on earbuds I want it to be the right choice. How well does the trick of switching the cables around on the triple.fi's work for fit?... does it make them more aerodynamic? (ie. sit closer to the ear) looks like it would. would like to go ahead with one of them tomorrow any help would be much appreciated.

Ps. also would like to know which is best for critical litening situations. Thats why I love my KRK studio monitor speakers and RME combo ; Nice, accurate, fairly flat response; but not too clinical or cold sounding.

well ive not tried anything on your list but the triple.fi's and i have to say if they had more bass it would probably be too much.

i listen to a lot of electronic, used to spin breaks so i love bass. in fact i had the super.fi's because when i tried the shure e4c's they were way too forward and lacking in bass. the super.fi's made me happy in the bass department but were missing some clarity in the other freq. ranges.

listening to electronic now on these triple.fi's does not make me wish for more bass. ive listened to some ninja tunes stuff and nu skool breaks and the bass is punchy tight and very present.

and the great thing is i can then put on a violin concerto and have it sparkle so clean. classical is only about 10% of my music listening but i want it done right as well.

ThanX idiotekniQues

I just wish the Triple.fi's weren't so damn UGLY (not that i'm vain enough not to buy them for that reason) all the reviews I have read sound great. How do you wear them? stock or with the cables swapped. which tips/ Comply's UE foamies?

I've owned the Triple, now I have the Super fis, and I've recently tried the UM2(which I plan on buying).

The Triple Fi was my favorite out of the three, however, like the Super Fi, it was an awful fit(I use the flip method), and it hurt too much to justify keeping the Triples. So I've used the Super fi for the last 3 or so years. I recently tried the UM2, and fell in love. The sound was warmer, bass was tighter than the Superfi. The highs were nothing to write home about, like the super fis.

The thing that is drawing me to the UM2 is the comfort, it stays in my ear, and causes me no pain. The super fi pops out when I move my mouth or when I sweat, the UM2 stays in my ear like glue. The super fis hurts my entire ear, the housing doesn't sit in the ear well, and after half hour it becomes irritable and painful. The memory wire seems to get harder over time, and causes a lot of pain as well in the areas where it loops over the ear.

Can't wait to get the UM2!

Depends, if you're songs have detailed mids, and vocals. The Se530 are best at that, for highs, go with triple fi. For Lows and a warmer, balanced sound, go for Westone3's. Um2's are fantastic as well, think of them as a slightly downgraded version of the Westone 3. I would say, the Highs on the Westone 3 don't fall short of triple fi's that much, so in the end. Westone 3, Se530, or Um2 for the highest priority.
