During the ongoing CES 2008 show, Resolution Audio debuted their forthcoming IXS Music Streamer product: CES Update: Resolution Audio IXS Music Streamer | Computer Audiophile . I would like to solicit more information about this product as well as read the opinions of our members especially current RA owners. Thank you.

If it is limited to using itunes then that removes it from my radar.

Looks like an interesting product, and if it's comparable to the CD21, should be rather good.
I'm surprised at just how many new servers were at CES, definitely good news.

Mildly OT, but Welly, did you ever get a DSN DIN to RCA for your Opus? If not, PM me. I can make you a good deal.

Same here. If I have to use an iWhatever as a remote then no deal.

As music server goes, Linn's moving-part free, bring-your-own-harddisk solution looks far more practical.

I've used my cellphone and my nokia n770 palmtop to interface with Signal, the software they're using on the backend.

As to having to use itunes on the back end, how is that any different than using any other music server software, except that it has additional functionality? You don't have to use it for your playback, just turn off file organization etc, and load your music into it and ignore it.

I have to say tho, Signal is a great little package. I discovered it through the reports about this device, and loaded it. I now use it to control my airport express into my apogee, and am thrilled. it does still have a few limitations, but it's by far the best remote control software I've seen for any music library.

iTunes does not support FLAC. I support FLAC because it is a very good lossless codec and it is free. I have no desire to rip my library to a new codec, nor should I have too. In fact, as soon as Apple supports FLAC, I'll probably buy an iPod and switch to iTunes, I do like and appreciate its interface. I'm not an Apple hater, it simply does not work well for me now.

Is this device just acting as an interface between the computer (iTunes) and the Resolution DAC? It looks like it has a proprietary connection between them preventing it's use with other DACs (not sure, it just looks that way from the Stereophile pic in the link). If so, I guess it has a use for those with a Resolution DAC, which is supposed to be excellent but couldn't they just have added an optical in or usb to the DAC?

Tidbits

I received an e-mail message from Mr. Kalt stating that he will get me more general and technical along with pricing information for the RA Opus 21 iXS. I can trade in my s30 for the s80 and he will update me on that as soon as he settles back in from CES 2008.

My heart is set on acquiring both components this year. If I can swing it, then I would like to purchase a new Grado GS-1000 and RA-1 DC headphone amplifier as well.

I am going back to my roots in American High Fidelity.

I picked up Cecilia Bartoli's new CD entitled Maria. Simply rapturous. I shall purchase the Rosetta Stone Italian Version 3 Levels I - III software. With my education in Theoretical and Applied Linguistics, it should be a breeze.

Add the quicktime flac component. Problem solved. Someone will post a link. As to using flac on an ipod, probably won't ever happen. Except with rockbox.

Thing is, max makes switching to alac simple, and alac isn't free like communism, but it is free like beer.

I may give that a try. I am currently comparing Foobar and J. River MediaCenter. I may as well throw iTunes into the fray

Nice analogy, I'll have to remember that one
