70's Scorpions

I had a case of nostalgia recently and was listening to lots of old Rock and Metal, so I just pulled out some old Scorpions album and ended-up listening to all of their pre-1980 albums:

# Lonesome Crow (1972)
# Fly to the Rainbow (1974)
# In Trance (1975)
# Virgin Killer (1976)
# Taken by Force (1977)
# Lovedrive (1979)

Turns out that I still love the pre-1980 Michael Schenker / Uli Roth Scorpions. What a great band. I also like some of the 1980's albums but for me they are not as good as the 70's stuff.

Any Scorpions fans on this forum?

I used to listen to these three albums when I lived in India and they were part of my Dad's collection. Being as dumb as I am, I left them all in India and now, we can't remember which box we packed my Dad's collection in, and I can't get to them anymore until the current people we are renting our house to move out.

But yes, I loved the Scorpions and still do, although I believe I have ignored them for a few months now.

Sorry, but I was not introduced to them until "Animal Magnetism". I loved them up until "Love At First Sting". I guess I'll have to go back in their catelog to check out their early stuff. They used to put on a great show.

The Scorpions get a lot of love in this household! Maybe its because my wife is from Germany and had a number of chances to see the Scorpions growing up. She introduced me to them, and I have grown to appreciate Klaus Meine's vocal abilities.

considering my dad has every CD they put out- I learned love.

I particularly like Pure Instinct (yeah post 80's). Great sound quality on that one.

I see a few folks like them around here Try 70's albums if you can guys they are way better than late 80's and 90's commercial pop-metal albums. Uli Roth was a very inventive guitar player influenced a lot by Hendrix. The first few 80's albums are also nice but nowhere as interesting as early 70's Kraut rock influenced output.

I have a couple greatest hits collections like 2CD Deadly Sting but noticed they all contain Mercury label material and do not have the 1970's material.......so I picked up a 2CD set which includes 1970's albums called Scorpions Gold

There is a whole series of 2CD "gold" hits collections of older rock groups which seem to do very good job, will look into these more........

My 9-year old gets pumped before any athletic endeavor with "Rock You Like a Hurricane."

It doesn't hurt that its been immortalized on "Guitar Hero 3" either. lol

I'm not a big metal fan, but I have "Fly to the Rainbow" on vinyl, and it is a guilty pleasure of mine. I love the German-accented English vocals, and the cover of that one is kind of trippy. I definitely TURN IT UP whenever '"Rock You Like A Hurricane" or "No One Like You" comes on the radio.

I like Scorpions but mainly know their 80's stuff. Reading a interview with them in a Guitar mag the other day, I had intended to go pick up some more of their older albums.

Sorry for bumping a 4 yr old thread.

However, I still love songs from Scorpions, both new ones and old ones. Their 2007 album "Humanity Hour I" is easily as good as their old songs. I do not consider this band as a "70's" band because they still have some good albums in/after the 90s.

Can anyone recommend some similar band/singer? I like Kansas and Within Temptation, although these bands are different I guess.

If you think about the sound of their late 1970s stuff only UFO comes to mind. Today no one is really like them in sound. They have a sound all their own. Call me a prude, but I think it is best to try and listen to the Scorps stuff in original album format or a CD which is a copy of the album. Songs on albums like Lovedrive are made to be in an order and heard the way the album played. To hear a greatest hits package with a couple of songs from Lovedrive seems to cut the mood into a less powerful and romantic experience. imo

I don't have the first two, but I own In Trance up through Lovedrive.  Some of my favorite music right there.
