Sleek SA6 - Page 31

I will share UK buying experience with you.

My previous message was unclear.

I have ordered SA6's from soundearphones.com and they are currently in customs in the UK. I shall let you all know what the total charges are.

Thought I would add this to the thread. I just tried out a pair of Comply foamies (the shorts, in the P models, which work for Etys, Atrios, etc.) and they are really a good match with the SA6s if you prefer foamies. I've been touting the yellow shure foamies, but they get ugly fast (and are pretty much ugly to begin with). The shures still feel good and sound nice too, but he Complys are a stronger foam, no doubt will last longer, and are gray, so not as dirty/ugly.

I only tried them out with the treble= and bass+ (my preferred setup), but pretty darn good, and only on the Sony DAP. More listening later. The Complys are a denser foam than the shures, so that may add some bass impact. Need to listen longer.

Got mine today... no customs. Love them, but now the fun begins: experimenting with combinations of ports. Once I know what and why I'll post a review here. Love these things already!

Congrats DeTinux!

I'm glad to hear you're liking them.

Question for all Canadian owners, specially Ontario. Do you know how much customs was for your SA6? I'm pretty interested but want to know how much customs is first

From what I know, if you get it shipped via USPS it should be whatever your regular tax in Ontario is plus a $5 brokerage fee.
Well they HeadphoneSolutions shipped it out using FedEx, so I'm not so sure...

Taxes shouldn't change but the brokerage fee will probably be more.

Aww... that's ok then, shouldn't be over $10 CAD I presume. That's ok. Has anyone compared the SA6 to the Atrio M5s?

Hard to say, UPS charges exorbitant brokerage fees but I don't think FedEx is as bad. I got burned a couple of times by UPS so now I try to avoid those types of couriers if at all possible.

Yeah, never get anything UPS. Even Fedex charges too much IMO. I always get things sent USPS, Canada customs charges a $5 flat handling fee(it's not a brokerage fee) and you pay taxes plus duty(if applicable). In general if it's made in the US, Canada, or Mexico you won't pay duty, just provincial tax. If it's not, expect duty plus your tax.

Couriers try to claim that their brokerage fee includes duty and taxes, but it's not true. They charge a lot more, and will charge you the same "brokerage fee" even if your item was excluded from duty.

BTW, where are the Sleeks made, can someone look for me as I'm in Canada as well?

Posted this in another thread, but I think it might interest other people here too.

The first issue of the SA6 were actually a lot leaner in the bass. After some experimenting and feedback from me Jason decided on a change that made me (and I believe a lot of other people too) completely happy.
BUT, if you want MORE bass try this: REMOVE THE BASS PORT COMPLETELY and let me know what you think of the bass then.
It is what I did when experimenting. I also picked holes of different sizes in the back of the ports and such....

I'm curious what change Jason has made to satisfy you (and the rest of us?)...can you say, Kees? Which thread did you originally post this in?

I've long suspected that completely removing the bass ports would result in greater bass, but I never took a moment to try it. Surely that can't be anything more than a momentary experiment, though, (I'd hardly call it a solution of any kind) since it endangers the innards of the earphones more than I'm comfortable with. Sleek even goes so far as to recommend against this in their packaged documentation.
