Good to see you're happy!!!

Very happy. Of course, no patience, so I swapped out the flanges for a pair of yellow Shure foamies, the ones I use with the Atrios, and I love the sound and comfort. Done deal. I just don't like the closed in feeling of flanges. These yellow foamies are just the right size for mey ear. They are short, so the tip of the sound tube is right at the end. But no matter. Iso is great too. I'm hooked.

Congrats tstarn06! The more I listen to the SA6's the more I like them, I hope it's the same for you.

George Benson is sounding pretty good right now. Didin't even know the song Masquerade had a triangle playing on the right side of the stage before. I love this stuff.

I hear ya about the tip issues. I find that the medium bi-flanges work absolutely great for me, luckily. Great match in size to my ear. Sometimes it's hard to get them to seal up as securely after taking them out, but I have noticed that if you just give them a quick wipe (with either your t-shirt, if it is untucked, or a cloth or towel) to get any oil or wax off that they go back in very securely. I love their bi-flanges, they're the best I've encountered yet in using IEM's. I may have to try a set of the yellow foamies though. Good find. Glad you're enjoying these too.

-Cheers.

Yeah, for whatever reason, the yellow foamies work for me. Worked with the Atrios too. I'd be glad to send you a pair to try out, since I am going to need to buy more anyway. I can't stop listening now. Rediscovering some music, in fact. That does say something about them, to me. Since I have basically run through every mid-priced IEM outside the Shure/UE line (I just didn't like the over the eay on the shures, nor the stick-like look of the UEs), this could be the end of the road. I hope.

We all hope... I know I sure could use a respite from all this earphone experimentation! Although now I'm thinking of trying a Cowon D2. I forget which early reviewer said that the D2 matched with the SA6 was instant synergy. I'm thinking that extra oomph of its internal amplifier will be a huge plus with these. I am of the same opinion as you in that I don't want to be toting around an amp in addition to the dap. I really want to keep things as portable as possible, mainly because I do a lot of traveling for work. You can definitely send me a set of the medium yellow foamies, if you have some extras. I would really appreciate it! I'll PM you the address. Let me know if you want me to paypal you a couple bucks for shipping.

-Cheers, Chris.

I've been trying to decide what IEMs to buy to use with my Sony 618, but it's been so hard. Before i read about SA6s i was thinking about q-JAYS and Klipsch Images. Images are a bit too expensive so i was going for the Jays, but now i think i'll have to order SA6s.
What do you guys think? Am i going to make the right decision?

They get my vote, at this early stage. Never had Q-Jays or Images. But a guy here in Philly is going to meet me (he's got some Images) to compare notes. Oh, and they sound great matched with the Sony A816.

That's funny, because even though I own a Sony DAP, I bought a Sansa e270 today, because it was $50 on Woot. 6GB, plus FM. And it has a card slot for 2 more GB (already have the card). Doh! Wondered if it sounded as good as the Sony (unlikely), then I could sell that DAP and keep the Sansa.

Anyway, no charge for S&H. They weigh nothing.

Great review, tstarn. What about comfort? Is cable stiff and intrusive, or is it flexible (and braided? ).
Also, is the junction between cable and earphones a tight one? UE IEMs have replaceable cables, but they don't have a snug connection. Etys do.

What else... what can you tell me about bass definition? I think the only way my tweaked Super.fi fall short compared to the Triple fi is due to less defined bass. It is slamming, but not completely "real" sounding... more of a blurry bass. Like a slamming cloud. Triple fi behave much better in bass definition, it sounds more "analogue".

Spent some time continually swapping between the SA6 and the UE11. I think I am beginning to clearly favor the SA6 sound. The UE11's bass is very overbearing after listening to the SA6. Nuances in the mid range are drowned out that I can clearly hear with the SA6. I lose some of the soundstage and completely smooth treble of the UE11, but it's a very acceptable trade off. The SA6 is no slouch on bass, either, so it gives me just about everything I could expect.

I don't toss recommendations around very often, but I HIGHLY recommend the SA6. It's that good.

I'm waiting for another 20$ off coupon before I get a pair.
Sadly I missed the last one for a day. Michael, are you reading?

That's quite an endorsement!

I bought mine with the expectations that at best they might come somewhat close to the performance of the E500's but at this point, much to my surprise I'd have to say I prefer the SA6's in just about every aspect.

I would be most interested to hear your impressions of that comparison. Soozieq has written up impressions of the Images, and is not that thrilled with the vocal presentation, but says that the bass is huge. I self-admittedly love a huge bass presence, but if the Images don't compare on the rest of the frequency bandwidths, then it's not worth it. These SA6's have such lush, natural & sweet mids/highs that I could not ever part with this level of refined sound.

Let me know what you think of that Image/SA6 comparison when you get to hear it. Soozieq is going to be able to do that as well I think- her SA6's should get there in a couple days.
