Sleek SA6 - Page 70

Thanks, windrider!

The Shure online has S, M, and L, and they say the Mediums are the same as the Yellow foamies. I'm guessing they recently added the small and large size, but I'm not sure.

I'd love to just grab these in a store if anyone knows someplace in Mass. that sells them.

I don't think the "sa6" code does anything anymore, as SoundEarphones has extended the $200+free shipping promotion without any need for a code (see the announcement here). You could always try entering it at checkout, but my guess is you'll see no change.

Wow, a year or so is a lifetime in head-fi terms...Who knows what new temptations will be around by then?

x2 on the black olives. I use a small in my right ear and a medium in the left one. Weird, I know. But my ears are weird, I guess. And best of all, they are washable. I also found the yellow shure mediums good, but the olives are soft, comfy. I also could not get used to the flanges, but silicone sleeves just bug me, like an allergy type of thing. I think you have to buy them online, and they are not cheap.

Since the price is still $200 (must've been a short gap between the deals?), I'm willing to bet Michael M would refund you the remaining $20 if you brought this to his attention.

Hi everyone. Been listening to my new SA6s the past couple days and have been left utterly confused. My first listen left me underwhelmed - the bass was almost nonexistent (with the bass +) and the treble, while detailed, sounds harsh and flat to my ears (with the - treble). I'm also not too sure of the "inside your head" soundstage of IEMs in general. I thought I had a poor seal with the flanges (even with the largest size) so I fumbled around with them and came to the conclusion that they were indeed sealed well. Tried a different source with similar results and doubt that both drivers I received are defective somehow in the bass department.

I've been comparing these SA6s to my stock HFI-780s and I'm liking the 780s a lot more. The 780s bass is present (although I'd still like more), the mids are more pronounced and colored, and the highs, while lacking the some of the clarity of the SA6s, are similarly harsh/sibilant (perhaps slightly less so). The 780s are all around more "in your face" and involving.

I know a couple other people in this thread have come to similar conclusions with what they describe as "anemic" bass. I'm still trying to find what sonic qualities press the right buttons for me when it comes to headphones (I've only listened to a few quality headphones), and I think these IEMs are telling me that I love bloated, overbearing bass, strongly colored and "fun" midrange, and a high devoid of what I perceive as cringe-worthy harshness. You know, the salts, fats, and sugars of the audiophile world. :P I guess it looks like I'll be sending these guys back, as wonderfully built and innovative as they are.

I blame these unhealthy tastes on the ridiculously house shakingly bloated and colored JVC "Gigatube" stereo I grew up listening to (and still adore the sound of):

Yes. They look as ridiculous as they sound. I think I've been trying to reproduce this signature ever since I ventured into the headphone market. After reading these forums on and off the past couple years, I've discovered that my ideal sound is the audiophile equivalent of a slightly expired canned cheeseburger. Sorry to bore you all with my bittersweet epiphany. Any suggestions on where I can find my "canned cheeseburger" sound signature in ANY type of headphone are welcome.

I am a little scared to get these iem's just because i might compare them to my Ultrasone 750 prolines. I have the money, i just need some feedback if this is a worthwhile purchase for $180 shipped. The wireless option sounds pretty awesome. i wonder how much it will cost. can you sleep on these iem's?

how are the bass on these headphones?

i have owned the livewires (, < didn't work out) no bass, probably a fit problem. I also have tried the atrio m5's, i remember them as having a lot of bass, which i liked in a way, but just depends.

@G1ll & Elluzion: I have owned both the UE triple.fi 10 & the SA6. One of the key reasons I opted to return the TF10 and keep the SA6 was the less "in your face" bass response of the SA6 with the bass+. It's still full, it still has punch, but it's more about hearing the bass than trying to make me forget these are IEMs and not G1ll's futuristic looking bass cannon pictured above. The TF10 had this amazing or utterly distracting (depending on your POV) ability to have very tight, refined bass that managed to thump just the 70 or so square millimeters of your eardrum like a full size speaker (and the SE530 is reported be even bassier ).

Just some food for thought, I think the SA6's bass is just right in that it sounds good but doesn't resort to the "subwoofer in the ear" effect that some other products go for - you guys may have to go for one of the multi-driver IEMs that are able to dedicate an armature to just the task of thumping your eardrum and immediate skullbones while still having a better, more refined mid and high range than the atrios can manage.

x2. If the SA6s don't deliver the boombox bass you seek, send them back, because that will never happen, no matter how you tweak/mod them.

G1II...I don't remember anyone calling the SA6 bass anemic. Plus, that term is meaningless for the reasons Channum outlined. I doubt the Sleeks will ever be your cup of tea. And you are the first person in this massive thread to describe the mids/highs as harsh.

Save your money and get some cheap JVCs, Skullcandys or Senn CX300s.

I'm really no expert, but from my experience, no bass + harsh trebles = bad seal. If I am not mistaken, seal as a lot to do with the shape of your inner ear canal. I think you'll find here by doing a bit of (re)search that those "universal" IEMs fit only 10% of the population. Wether you get pain or a bad seal is pretty much a good indication.

However, the bass on the Sleek, to my ears, is still pretty good although it probably won't touch the HFI you own. But you definitly should still be able to hear bass!

I don't know if you ever tried some other IEMs before you tried the Sleeks? That would give a good indication to know if your ears are having difficulties getting that seal.

I'm one of the 10% lucky, no matter what brands I try, they all fit me But reading in this forum for a few months you'll come across a lot of people who are having a hard time with IEMs - of any brand and manufacturer.

Hope you eventually get these to work
