Hi everyone. Been listening to my new SA6s the past couple days and have been left utterly confused. My first listen left me underwhelmed - the bass was almost nonexistent (with the bass +) and the treble, while detailed, sounds harsh and flat to my ears (with the - treble). I'm also not too sure of the "inside your head" soundstage of IEMs in general. I thought I had a poor seal with the flanges (even with the largest size) so I fumbled around with them and came to the conclusion that they were indeed sealed well. Tried a different source with similar results and doubt that both drivers I received are defective somehow in the bass department.
I've been comparing these SA6s to my stock HFI-780s and I'm liking the 780s a lot more. The 780s bass is present (although I'd still like more), the mids are more pronounced and colored, and the highs, while lacking the some of the clarity of the SA6s, are similarly harsh/sibilant (perhaps slightly less so). The 780s are all around more "in your face" and involving.
I know a couple other people in this thread have come to similar conclusions with what they describe as "anemic" bass. I'm still trying to find what sonic qualities press the right buttons for me when it comes to headphones (I've only listened to a few quality headphones), and I think these IEMs are telling me that I love bloated, overbearing bass, strongly colored and "fun" midrange, and a high devoid of what I perceive as cringe-worthy harshness. You know, the salts, fats, and sugars of the audiophile world. :P I guess it looks like I'll be sending these guys back, as wonderfully built and innovative as they are.

I blame these unhealthy tastes on the ridiculously house shakingly bloated and colored JVC "Gigatube" stereo I grew up listening to (and still adore the sound of):

Yes. They look as ridiculous as they sound. I think I've been trying to reproduce this signature ever since I ventured into the headphone market. After reading these forums on and off the past couple years, I've discovered that my ideal sound is the audiophile equivalent of a slightly expired canned cheeseburger. Sorry to bore you all with my bittersweet epiphany. Any suggestions on where I can find my "canned cheeseburger" sound signature in ANY type of headphone are welcome.
