Norah Jones - Come Away With Me

On the first track "Don't Know Why" her voice gets very distorted its almost unbearable to listen to, hurting my ears.

Is this because of a lousy job on the recording, or could it be something with my setup, or maybe the flac conversion gone wrong?

Too bad if its the actual recording, cause in other respect its nicely recorded IMO.

Anyone else noticed the same thing?

I think it's the recording. Sounds like her mouth is right on the mic, and it grates a bit with most headphones.

x2. It was always a problem with that track. It's Norah, not you.

Ok, wonder how they let that through... anyways, love her voice =)

Yes - I hear it on more than one occassion on the album. Another example is in the second verse of track 3, Cold Cold Heart.

Yes. More or less distortion when she raises her voice all over the place...

Somebody has been asleep in the process. I would have been embarrased if I were responsible for a blunder like that.

Where is the pride these days

They should totally be embarrassed about their mistake(s). Their job is to manufacture/engineer a flawless recording of the song, yet they can't--someone needs to get fired or commit seppuku.

I get pissed off hearing these distortions/static, because it drives me crazy figuring out what could be wrong. Through much unnecessary effort, it turns out to be the recording

The distortion is present on SACD and vinyl also. This points to poor original recording above (re)mastering. But given the state-of-the-industry, it really wouldn't surprise me either way.

'not too late' is a flawless recording at least Mastered well to.

That SACD is a joke anyway.
I remember the first time I listened to that album with my Etys I freaked out thinking they were broken. So at home I checked with the HD600 and they sounded broken too. Great relief it was just the recording. Nevertheless it is quite a shame, as it would actually be a nice album to listen to every now and then (unless you were force-fed it on every possible occasion for two years, it kind of makes me aggressive now), but you cannot.

That always did wear on my nerves when I wanted to indulge in some Norah. Her voice is amazing, but with a recording like that, I'm limited to listening to her later work, even though I know the music is very good on the debut as well.

Yeah, I noticed that her voice seems a little shouty through my MS-Pros. Looks like it is mainly a fault with the recording, not with my cans. Grados probably exaggerate the faults with its peaky midrange.

Since I always tend to play her music at a relatively lower volume, I have hardly noticed it before. Now that I listen to it again at regular listening levels, its quite glaring.

Anyone here find the same thing with Fiest - The Reminder? I can't remember the track(s) right now, but I know there is some annoying distortion on it, too. I wasn't sure if it was my rip, my copy of the disc, or the recording.

Any chance these are related to Loudness? I've only just begun to learn about the wars....

I like Norah but i find CAWM pretty much unlistenable on decent headphones.A pity.
