DT880 and JDS labs cMoy, help

First off, Hello I am new to head-fi

I have just bought some used beyerdynamic dt880s and a new jds labs cMoy amp. I listen to music from my powerbook g4, and its mini out jack. All my music is 192kbps, and comes from itunes with the equalizer off. My sound quality seems lacking, and distorted, some times specifically with womens vocals, her voice at high notes seems distored and a slight hiss happens. Also, the bass on the dt880s is great, but on some songs it seems like the dt880s can't handle bass well because the bass with get real sloppy and distorted aswell. The only thing I can think of at the moment is to go get a amp that has enough power to power the dt880s. Please someone help me with my problem.

An amp would probably help but you might want to let the headphones burn in for a little first.

Don't blame the Cmoy. It should be able to drive the 880 easily.
With a impedance of 250 Ohm, neither does it reqire high voltage (as with a 600Ohm phone, for example) , nor does it require a high output current (as with low-impedance phones).

Check if you distort the input of the CMoy with a high output volume of your soundcard. Disable EQ. Make sure you use no overly dynamic-compressed/clipped music. The DT 880 will make your nose bleed from bad recordings.

DT-880's need an amp... and a quality source. They bring out the worst of a poor encoding or a poorly recorded original. Properly amped and with a good recording, they are superb with female vocals. The bass is tight, well defined, and crisp, but not overpowering. Get a decent amp, and listen again to decide if you need better quality mp3's. I think 192 is the minimum acceptable, but prefer lossless. I listen to my DT-880's out of a Meier Opera connected to my Mac most of the time. Before I had the Opera, I listened to the Beyers out of an iPod (line out) thought a Headroom Total Airhead and the sound was acceptable. Straight out of the iPod did not cut it though.
