ERGO AMT (Air Motion Transformer) headphones - Page 2

Do I see any benefit? Maybe. But the amp issue is orders of magnitude more important than replacing the cable. The cable is pretty high gauge stranded copper whereas the K1000 cable is insofar as I know pretty weedy. At least as far as I can tell. It'd not the same geometry that Precide use for their MDM speaker cable though.

Very cool! I had an Air Motion Transformer speaker in my room as a kid growing up, the ESS AMT-1. I truly miss the sound, there's nothing like it.

Oddly, the AMT tweeter was MUCH more efficient than the 10" woofer, to the point that it had to be padded way down in the crossover to compensate.

I have mine terminated to 4-pin XLR just like the K1000. I use an XLR to Hirschmann (thats the name of the obsolete 6 pin connector they use) converter when I want to use the filter box. That's only until I build myself a better filter box though. Without the filter box I have an XLR to banana plugs tail.

If an amp does a good job with a K1000, then I would imagine that it would do a good job with the AMT. I cannot give my great big thumbs up to any amp except the Pass Labs Aleph M I currently use though. Which is by far the best amp I've tried with the AMT.

They only need 2 - 4 watts. So watch the volume dial at first.

I scored an AMT and right out of the box with the transformer, it is second to K1000.
There's some mushiness in the mids so I figure the box isn't doing the best sound available.j
