Pioneer DV-563A Universal Player
SOLD! Price: $79 with free shipping to CONUS. SOLD!
The DV-563A has served me well as a wonderful player for both high-resolution formats like DVD-Audio and SACD, and just regular CDs. I've never had a piece of Pioneer equipment fail or even hiccup, and this one is no exception. This was the first and last non-Elite Pioneer universal player to be marketed with a $250 MSRP; subsequent models became cheaper and contained inferior DACs.
Internal Components
It contains a Burr-Brown DSD1791 DAC for the front channels and DSD1702 DACs for the rest. The DSD1791 is similar in design to the ex-flagship PCM1738 chip--both are Advanced Segment DACs, which have improved fidelity over traditional delta-sigma DACs. I have a higher-end player with the PCM1738 DAC and the DV-563A sounds remarkably similar.
Does it downmix SACD?
This player does not downconvert to PCM for SACD. It has its own native DSD converter capable of playing back the unmodified signal.
Updated
I have updated the DV-563A with the latest official firmware from Pioneer, which makes it capable of playing all DVD-Audio discs, even the cranky ones.
Condition
Overall, the player is in fair/good cosmetic condition and perfect working condition. It has some minor scratches that can be seen upon close inspection. I have tried to document the exact condition of the player with the photographs below.
Note: The chassis of the player has a slight dent or crease on the right side panel (see picture below), which is how it arrived to me. The case is all metal, so this blemish has absolutely no effect on sound quality, or aesthetics when viewed from the front.
What's Included
It comes with the original power cord, remote, and manual.
Pictures!
