I own a stax 4040 set and would like a recommendation on a good soundcard or (not too pricey) USB dac that complements the cans. I currently own a very high end battery powered PCM1704 DAC that will stay in my living room. Thus I need another solution for my stax because I'm building a dedicated headphone setup. I also own a Squeezebox and a HagUSB converter. I don't want to sacrifice quality too much quality compared to my old dac. I was considering EMU0404, Behringer SRC2496 (external), Audiotrak Prodigy, Onkyo SE200 - basically a solution that is comparable to a good standalone cd player. Hoping to hear some suggestions.
