Sennheiser Launching New Products at CES! - Page 8

I would prefer they didn't announce a new flagship headphone as I am sure I will end up buying it even though I am perfectly satisfied with the HD650.

But wouldn't you rather be REALLY satisfied with an HD800?

And then in 60 years the HD9000000?

Official news:

Sennheiser will be partnering up with Denon to offer an incredible 2008 line-up of headphones. They will be branded under the name of "Sennon" and will make use of a brand new driver technology dubbed the "chirping turtle."

The sound and buildquality will be like BOSE and the design will be like the HD265 with the paint job of HD600.

IIRC the last time Senn debuted something to jude it was a bunch of clip-on style headphones so I think it's safe to say that they value his input on just about anything and not just flagship-type products. So, it could be just about anything and I'd wager that jude threw that "not what you're expecting" comment in much like one throws gas on a fire, just for the sheer fun of it.

So you prefer Sennheiser to drop further development and stick with the HD650 as their flagship for all times? I prefer them to continue developing and releasing ew headphones, as we all benefit from this. But its of course your decision if you want to buy the 'phone(s) or not...

Crossing finger for a HE60 and/or HE90 successor.

I'd be interested in seeing a HD-650 level closed phone. Ultrasone and Beyer just don't do it for me.

Hell no ! Just trying to resist the urge to upgrade.

I would prefer a dynamic than an electrostatic, however.

It seems to me that for the last few years Sennheiser has been sticking to the Stax party line, "if it sells, don't fix it." Stax haven't updated their Lambda line despite it having a driver housing that was outdated 30 years ago. The HD600 is still considered one of the best headphones out there in the industry, while the HD650 is still competitive with other audiophile-oriented headphones, and while it stays that way, I doubt Sennheiser will do anything.

Where they're lacking is in IEMs, and of course there's always room for more closed, DAP-friendly headphones to rival the Triports, especially since Sennheiser actually has the name recognition to stock their headphones in Best Buy and the like.

Sure, I would love a new flagship headphone, or an electrostatic headphone, or something with a new and unexpected driver technology, but let's get real. Sennheiser are a market-driven company, and the market doesn't need any of that.

Oh, and they lost a ton of money on every HE90 sold, so what's the point of making a statement product when you don't need to make any more statements about your quality and brand prestige?

P.S. I sure hope to be proven wrong. If I am, you can guess what I'm buying.
