In that case, you'd have to buy the Blue Circle SBH or the Meier Opera, since those amps I have had a long time, and they are not going anywhere, either.

The ASL amp is terrific, by the way. My selling it has nothing to do with its quality. Sometimes I like to change amps - much easier and cheaper than changing jobs or wives

As for the MingDa, it really sounds good. It is typical EL84/6BQ5 sound to me - luscious midrange, slightly tubby but ample bass, and slightly sweet and rolled off highs. It's unfailingly beautiful sounding. Imaging is typical tube, which is to say generally great, but better depth than width.

All those comments are with the amp using RCA Command 5751's and RCA 6BQ5's.

I would recommend it to anyone. With dual inputs, and the ability to be either a headphone amp or a speaker amp with the flick of a switch, it's a great value.

Great comments ...

My roommate is about to buy some of their CD player fare ...

(and I'm considering the above amp)

Nice. It looks a lot better without that ugly-ass ipod sitting there in their website shots. I don't think I've ever heard a syrupy amp!

Well ... non-technically speaking ... a Marshall half-stack is quite syrupy once heated up appropriately.

So ... if you've ever listened to a live Jimi Hendrix recording ... then you've heard a syrupy (hot as hell) tube amp.

...

But that's getting off topic so I'll digress ...

Syrupy, to me, is just an tube amp that is TOO lush, at the expense of detail and frequency-extreme performance. The stock, basic Singlepower PPX3 is syrupy. Which is interesting because the SP Extreme is anything but.

This Ming-Da is not syrupy, but it's closer to that than any of my other tube amps. But I really enjoy listening to this amp. It sounds more beautiful than reality, but it is a very pleasant illusion indeed!

To the OP: can you include the name of this amp in your thread title? That way we won't have more threads crop up on this amp, and we can focus comments on it here. Thanks!

sorry to revive an old thread but its the only one talking about the amp in question. would MC 84C07 match well with d5000? how would the synergy compare to d5000 matching with ef1? i own a ming da mc7r preamp for my speaker setup and would be more than enthusiastic about another purchase if the amp should pair well with my d5000.

No, it wouldn't. The MC 84C07 is a very nice amp, but it likes higher impedance headphones. I really like mine a lot, but I use it with 600 ohm Beyers. My 70 ohm JVC's hum with this amp - the D5000's are 27 ohm!

Wow, so cool!

Does it have any problems taking a line-out signal from an iPod? (ie the signal being too loud/hot, etc)

Thanks!

It's a nice change of pace from my Darkvoice 337 and Singlepower Extreme, which are superb amps, but are less "tubey" sounding. More detailed review to come.

You shouldn't have any problems using and ipod line out. I've use a lot of different sources with mine.

Thanks, moodyrn.

It looks like that gold-coloured lettering at the front could rub off - has that happened at all?
No, no such problems with mine, nor do I think that is likely.

I've only had it about three months, so I really couldn't say. But I know Skylab have had his for a while. So I would pretty much trust what he says. The pictures don't do this thing justice. This thing is really beautiful, and it sounds just as good(if not better) than it looks.
