Mine have arrived and sound is very promising (dub reggae, oh yeah!).  But there's the same issue with the stock cable mentioned by others here. Screwed in all the way, only one channel and pulled out a bit, the other channel.  My V-moda audio cable seems a solid connection (I think), although I haven't tried to wiggle it.

Is it an issue with the stock cable or the input itself?

EDIT.  Arhh, I wasn't screwing the stock cable in enough.  All's good now!

My only gripe with the Q40's is the annoying stock cable.

Why do you find it annoying?  Anyhow, just order this and problem sorted.

I see that someone recommended Alpha pads as a good upgrade.  Has anyone else found them to be good with the Q40's?

Absolutely seemed to transform them. Between them and the V- Moda audio only cable the two mods together rally complete this headphone.

Amazing upgrade, transforms the headphones to a completely new level.

I also agree with the upgrades. V-Moda cable is a must and the Alpha pads are great for a more fun listen. A lot more bass. The mids end up recessed a bit with the Alphas (signature becomes quite v-shaped) but they are incredibly fun, and comfortable.

Hmm, I thought I read that the Alpha's tighten the bass?   Not sure I'd really want mooarr bass, nor recessed mids either

My Q40's are still running in.  Like them a lot so far!   Wouldn't want the bass any looser though :regular_smile :

Then I wouldn't get Alphas. They provide a pretty wicked v-shaped signature. Fun though!

Coolio.  Maybe others can chime in with their Alpha pad upgrade impressions too

It's quite possibly the only v-shaped sound signature that I accept and enjoy - it's that good.

Definitely. The DT770's (for example) are terrible in comparison.

Well,  if anyone's able to buy and send me pair of Alpha's I'd be really grateful- shipping/duty is a killer to the UK otherwise.  Can paypal you.:regular_smile :

Stock cable is really long, and tangles a lot.

I already use a 3rd party cable (Mediabridge 3 feet) but the problem is, the cable doesn't lock into place like the stock one. Any slight movement and the cable gets pulled down and audio is gone. How do you guys use the V-moda cable without a problem?

The only way my V-Moda cable ever got unplugged was if I stepped on it. You need to make sure you have a cable narrow enough to make a good connection to the headphone.

I don't have any issues with the cable dropping either when using Monoprice DJ 8323 bundled cable (the slimmer shorter 1.5m).
