Heh, Pointy Things..

I only have two worth showing - my daily folder and a handmade fixed.



The fixed blade was made by Gene McGuire in 2000. He's a cantankerous old coot, a great knifemaker, and a dear old friend. He used to have a website called www.mcknife.com - you might be able to find it on one of those website archive thingys..

The folder is a Spyderco 'Q' with serrated blade. They make a smooth blade which is infinately better for opening envelopes than the serrated but there's nothing quite like the look on people's faces when I whip this out.

I love Spyderco. They will make special 'Q' knives in limited runs for corporations and such. You can get one from REI with the REI logo in the blade. For you pistoleros, there is a h-k 'Q' model. There's an American flag version available from Spyderco as well. I'd be broke if I started getting serious about collecting them. Check out these pics from an old eBay auction:

As long as you don't go for something like a Rambo Bowieknife or something that says "arrest me", run it by your folks(make that Dad). If they say "not yet" or "not a good idea", just say Ok and go on. If your responsible enough to be trusted fencing, my guess is that once you put the bug in Dad's ear, he won't be much against it (at least not for long).

But make sure you know why you want one and which one you want before you ask.

Oh, and if we ever find out you took one to school, we are all going to come up there and dope slap you on the back of the head

A sad indicator of modern times. We used to take our knives out and whittle on breaks at school; a surefire ticket for expulsion. today.

Its a song about coping with the death of his father. Its actually more of a poem set to music.

At any rate, I'll play along for giggles!

My search for the perfect, practical, affordable workhorse EDC folding pocket knife ended once I acquired this dynamic duo:

Spyderco waved Delica:


Spyderco waved Endura:


And believe me when I say that the search for the perfect EDC knife for my personal usage spanned many, many years. For me, the above two can't be beat.

I carry the Delica 90% of the time, but I break out the bigger brother (Endura) for the jobs that require a beefier blade. To date, those two knives are as close to a perfect knife that I have found for my requirements in an EDC knife.

Add in a Spyderco sharpmaker to keep them nice an sharp and I'm pretty much set for life in the folding pocket knife category...

Sure like those Spydercos. Can't see much use for a tanto wedge point, but having a heavy cutting rear serrated section has paid off a number of times.
