Are there "invisible" headphones/earbuds?

Hi all, I'm back with a quick question about headphones.

What would be the closest to "inivisible" headphones be?

the best thing would seem to be wireless earbuds (if they existed...do they???) and I'd live with one. Quality would be a nice bonus but the important part would be to have at least one of the earbuds on AND not get "detected" at work or in one of the general ed classes I'm taking in college. My work isn't bad but at times I'm on my own doing something horribly reperative/annoying and having to live with 1000 hums from different sources. It's not a type of job where if I don't hear everything that's going on mine or anyone else's life'd be in danger as there was nothing explosive last time I checked.

I'm about to buy one of the new iPods whenever Apple finally releases them and until then I'll be trying to figure out if there's a headphone/earbud out there that's "invisible" enought for me to use at work.

Thanks for any suggestions in advance!

Search for the Sony WM-WE01 Tape Walkman... that's the most wireless you can get... others could be the Sony D-626 Discman or the Sony MZ-E7W MD Walkman... they made a number of wireless Walkmans too but they're all tape players from the early 90s and late 80s... Aiwa also has its HS-WR70...

Then again you want something for your iPod... then I don't think any wireless earphones exist...

the closest thing that i've seen is not wireless, but pretty close to invisible. Try the link below to the Sensaphonics website

http://www.sensaphonics.com/321.html

dunno how much it costs, but i spose it'd be pretty expensive. And it doesn't seem to be intended for music use - mainly communications. So that puts a big question mark over the sound quality

If someone wants to put something like a wireless adaptor on the back of some Ety ER-4P earphones, I'll start saving up tomorrow!

Frequency Response: 200-6000 Hz

yeah definitly not exactly meant for music ... I was willing to sacrifice a bit of the quality by having actual mono sound as long as it was near-full range but this is way worse than I expected...makes sense as the thing wasn't meand for that...

IZCool, your idea is a nice one but I suppose then we got the trouble of powering the things...

If we go really sci-fi there's that implant idea with military people (perhaps that's real and I just think they make it sound fancy in games and movies ... latest thing I recall'd be Splinter Cell) but then the Freq. Range'd probably be about as bad I just wanted to be able to listen to some music while doing one of the repetative tasks and look like I'm not listening to music but I suppose that's not something I can do at this time

the wait for nano technology remains ... perhaps hypersonic speakers that I can aim at my left or right ear from distance...then all I'd have to worry about would be anyone else getting in their way...that's how I could get discovered...THAT and I don't got hypersonic anything yet

I don't know how 'invisible' they are. After the previous post.... But they seem pretty non-noticable. The strap goes around the ear and behind the back.

just grow long hair

Agreed :P

Medium length dark hair + KSC-35's.... not one of my friends nor my teachers know I have headphones on.

Just don't turn it up too loud =]

[besides, we all know long hair is sexy on guys :P]

'Tis true. Just look at all the guys with long hair in anime - they're all cool!

Nick, I've been on the same quest for some time. I want something stealthy but decent quality. There's just nothing out there as far as I can tell. I was thinking about getting some ety's and tring to modify them. Or I think you can get a custom earpiece built that looks like a hearing-aid. Growing hair is an idea to consider except that its really annoying to deal with all the time. Maybe there is an untapped market for stealthy earbuds.

There are actually wireless earpieces we use in TV. Many times a reporter will record his standup on a minicassette and play it into his ear and repeat it. For reporters who have a hard time memorizing it works fine.

The minicassette broadcasts to the wireless earpiece with a range of 10 feet or so. The reporter works the recorder in his pocket.

still kinda shiny but rather good suggestion...

long hair? heh ... yeah anime dudes with long hair are usually of the bad-ass type

Dave1, I want ...
as long as most of the music frequency range sounds good I'd be happy...I don't need incredible lows or highs, I just need something to keep me distracted from all hums and stuff.

Thanks with the suggestions everyone, keep 'em comming

The best idea still remains sci-fi ... nanotech/hypersonic speaker pointed at my head (and I'm not even very sure about a single one working, I'm thinking it might need 2) and then there's always the implant idea

Yeah, there are lots of wireless earphones, but they're all meant for voice communications, so they have horrible frequency responses. And they're very expensive. Here are a couple: Maybe you should just get a radio installed in your tooth. ...

Get a pair of Grado SR80's and glue some hair extensions on them. It'd give you a Princess Leia kinda look, but the headphones won't be visible. The whole thing could be done for under $100.

lol! you could loops some princess leia braids around the transducers, although that may ruin the bass response (i'm not kidding; cover up the outer grills of your grados with your hands to see what i mean).
