Throwing away 32gb of flash!

My first flash player was 256mb. When the battery eventually dies, I will not pay $$$ to replace the battery. I presume even when it's plugged in, the memory will not be accessible with a dead battery...is this right? 32gb drives are coming out in the near future and I predict that when those batteries go out in 3 years or so, 256gb flash players will be in fashion and who would want to pay $$$ for a new battery for a dated puny 32gb player?

^ of course, technology kicks our inflated asses.

but i doubt it would only be 3 years for 32gb --> 256gb... i hope im wrong tho :P

The 32gb player has 128x the storage of your old one, so it's an absolutely massive difference whereas the 256gb (if available) would only have 8x the amount.

For the £10 it would cost to get a replacement battery off eBay I would replace it

Could be wrong but I've heard it cost around $100 for the replacement battery for the Sony 818 - THATS OVER 50% OF THE COST. I think most people will just buy a new one when the time comes. For the D2...guessing $50+. Too bad they dont use "AAA"s or some type of watch batteries but I'm sure this is their plan for you to keep buying new daps every few years.

That, and I also think it has to do with keeping players slim.

yeah - if they made it twice as thick and had twice the battery life I would be much happier.

it will be pretty funny if they have 256gb cap and support only mp3 files.
